Dear All,
It's been around 8 weeks that my husband is back home permanently. Some days are better than others and he makes tiny steps towards recovery. However, his left side (arm, leg, face) is still fully paralyzed, which makes it nearly impossible for him to be autonomous in any basic task from eating, getting himself to bed or to the toilette.
We have come a long way (with your help) since this tragedy hit us. For the first time, since last year's infamous November, our kids were able to visit us a couple of weeks ago. Brian's children were happy to see his progress and asked their dad to push harder so that he could come back to a normal life again. His daughter, with tears on her eyes, asked him to double-down his healing efforts, as she dreams of her dad walking her down the aisle. He also dreams of being able to dance with me on our next anniversary, despite his efforts, he was not able to stand-up long on this last one, on August 28th - I am sharing that video with you below. We all want the old healthy Brian back and we are focused on exploring every possible avenue to get him there.
After tons of research, we have found a treatment that is very promising for him to be able to walk and move properly again. This is a highly specialized treatment that is meant to target mitochondrial brain cell rejuvenation so that he can regain full function of his motor skills. To get that treatment, my husband and I will need to drive up from Portugal to Germany which is where a neurosurgeon will perform it. We are very hopeful about this treatment as the Doctor looked at Brian's medical records and assured us that he is definitely a very good candidate for recovery.
