Mitchel’s funeral

Mitchel Alexander Sanchez was born Feb 7th 1999 at Mercy Hospital, Miami. He was a wild child full of excitement with a smile that brought joy to whomever saw it. Mitchel grew to be handsome and strong always bringing joy to his family and friends.

Yet not long into the year of 2010, after Mitchel’s 9th birthday, he was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (a rare genetic disease). Duchenne causes the muscles in the body to become weak and damaged over time, and is eventually fatal. It was at that time that the family was made aware that Mitchel had been born with it.

Mitchel didn’t take this news as a defeat, he took it as a new challenge. He stayed true to his heart and did not let this diagnosis change who he was. At the start, Mitchel aced his physical therapy sessions and would come home a champion with more and more improvements.

Sadly, over time Mitchel soon lost the ability to walk. Standing, walking, and even getting out of bed soon started to become a hassle for him, and in the year 2014 Mitchel began to rely on an electric wheel chair for transportation.

Even with this setback, Mitchel continued to have a beautiful outlook on life. He adapted to life in his new wheelchair as if he always had it and never changed how he approached things. Even when offered assistance he would prove he could still continue his everyday activities.

In the following year, Mitchel was faced with new challenges, more specifically some heart complications. Despite the extra pills, extended hospital visits, and nutritional limits he was challenged with, Mitchel had a smile. He welcomed it all and made it his own.

Late July 2019, Mitchel started feeling sick. What seemed like a typical stomach bug soon turned out to be more. Mitchel began to experience jaundice and a UTI.  After his third visit to the ER, after his mother found him in distress, the doctors took extra tests. The tests identified ventricular arrhythmias (irregular heart beat in the lower chambers of the heart) as well as a blood clot in one of the ventricles of his heart.

August 13th, Mitchel was admitted to the ICU at St. Joseph’s hospital. For multiple days he had to battle the pain of his UTI and a loss of appetite. Mitchel would do his very best to continue smiling and being as hopeful as possible.

On the morning of August 21st 2019, Mitchel’s blood clot blocked his aorta from being able to pump out blood out through his body. This caused him to “code” at the hospital, from which he could not recover.

Mitchel was a beautiful soul. Anyone who has ever met him would easily say how magnificent of a soul he was. Mitchel will forever live on in his family and friends’ hearts and memories.

Any contribution for Mitchel’s funeral will be greatly appreciated. Thank you
