Mitchell's Heart Fund

My name is Elizabeth Sweeney and I'm the grandmother of a sweet three-year-old boy who is facing enormous challenges. I'm asking you to be part of "Team Mitchell".

Mitchell was born in July  2020 in the middle of the pandemic. He has Down Syndrome and several associated heart problems. Despite everything he's been through, Mitchell is a loving, fun and active boy. He lights up any room he goes into and particularly enjoys playing with his sister Genevieve, brother Benjamin and all of his cousins.  His eyes shine so bright when he laughs!!  

He had his first surgery - a stent - when he was just a few weeks old.

His second surgery was a Glenn Procedure (The Glenn Procedure (for Parents) - Nemours KidsHealth) when he was one year old. He was supposed to be in the hospital for two weeks, but ended up having to stay for nearly two months. 

Now he is facing another procedure, a new and very rare surgery called a ventricle switch.

Mitchell and his family live in Erie, PA, the surgery is in Cleveland, OH. Although insurance covers many of the costs, Mitchell's parents (my son Joe and his wife Amanda) have to come up with funds for travel and temporary relocation. We expect that Mitchell will be in the hospital for two weeks, but there are no guarantees and it could easily take much longer.

Joe (my son) has made the decision to take advantage of FMLA so he can step away from work so he and his wife Amanda can both support Mitchell. I'm grateful that he can do this, but it means that they will be without an income for however long this takes.

 I'm asking you for two important things.

First, if you are willing, please pray for Mitchell and his family. They've been through a lot in the past three years and your prayers have helped carry them through.

Second, please donate to support Mitchell and his family. If we can raise enough funds to alleviate their financial concerns it will allow Joe and Amanda to focus completely on Mitchell during this tough surgery and recovery.
