Hello Everyone,
Anyone that knows my dad, Mitchell Roe, would describe his character as loyal, fun, trustworthy, kind hearted, and a bit smart-assy (just to name a few). He loves the outdoors, his family/friends, and the automobile industry. Last Tuesday was a day that I will not forget anytime soon. My father woke up confused and a completely different person. He was rushed to the emergency room here in Auburn, NY. After 12 hours of testing (MRI's, CT scans, Lumbar Punctures, brain/chest scans, EEG, EKG's, blood work, etc.) and no change in his condition, they were left just as puzzled as we were. The majority of the tests showed that he was a healthy 56 year old male, but his appearance and affect said otherwise. They decided to start anti-seizure and an anti-biotic that would target some of his symptoms (loss of vocabulary, motor skills, memory, confusion, etc.) and requested a transfer to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY where they have top notch infectious disease and neurology departments.
To this day, my father remains at Strong and his condition is improving daily. They still have no answers in particular at this time, but have been treating him for severe Encephalitis. They are hoping that a diagnosis will come back with his Cerebral Spinal Fluid (Lumbar Tap) tests. Regardless, he has a long road of recovery ahead of him. He will need surgery to put a port into his chest for self-administration of antibiotics once he is home. He will also need to attend physical therapy because his short term memory has been significantly impacted.
His fight thus far has shown his friends and family just how courageous and strong willed he is. My mother, Christy, has stepped up not only as a loving wife, but a compassionate caretaker throughout this entire process. She has set aside everything to focus 100% of her attention on him. Friends and family have come out in droves to offer love and support during this time.
My dad has had many struggles and overcame many hurdles over the last 5 years. Diagnosis of Prostate Cancer, to treatment and remission, to Diverticulitis flares, and loss of close family members and friends. He has humbly triumphed over everything, not once complaining all while being the sole provider for his family.
My dad has been showing his friends, family and medical attendees that he is still keeping his humor during this difficult time.
During this emotionally difficult time I have decided to lighten the financial burden for this incredible man, my father, Mitch and my loving mom, Christy, by starting this page. In whatever way you can, please donate. With the insurmountable medical debt over the last few years and time away from work, I cannot begin to imagine the stress and pressure my father and mother feel. He always wants to care for others, before he cares for himself. No words can describe how grateful I am for your help, and how grateful my mother and family are for your support.
