Mitchell Wayne Garrett Memorial Fund

If you asked his mama what was the best memory she had of her son, she would tell you that it was the day he was born. She said “He was a long baby; a happy baby”.His oldest sister would say that as a baby, “he would just look at you with them big eyes.” If you ask his children to imitate him, they will make their eyes big and say something radical that he would say followed by the same laugh he had, only in four-part harmony.

When you think of Mitchell, the memory of his eyes and his laugh come to mind. Unexpectedly, those eyes and laughs would become memories too soon. Whether you knew him from football, the army, fishing, family, friends, or just a person in need; those are what you remember.

Another memory is, his resilience. To know Mitchell was to be familiar with his resilience. He passed along this skill to anyone who did or did not like it. There was a no avoiding it, as Mitchell was not a man to be moved or swayed unless he felt the need to. Strong-willed would be an understatement, but unconditional would be appropriate to add next to that.

Unfortunately, on February 17, Mitchell passed away at his home shortly after talking to his older brother, Michael, one last time.

At this time due to limited finances and unforeseen circumstances, the family would like to ask for contributions and donations towards his burial instead of sending gifts to honor his memory.

By donating to his burial fund, his soul can rest in peace with a cremation service, funeral programs and grave side gathering in Kentucky Veterans cemetery. A euglogy will be read by Minister Josh Miller of Little Zion Baptist Church.
