Mitch Hughes Back Surgery
Donation protected
For the past 18 months, Mitch has been dealing with severe back pain attributed to degenerative disc disease as well as central-right disc herniation resulting in stenosis of the spinal canal and the right foramen in his L5-S1 spinal segment This condition has significantly impeded Mitch's ability to work and perform routine daily tasks.
Despite his relentless efforts, including consistent physiotherapy, regular exercise, and a commitment to a healthy lifestyle, Mitch has found no relief from his persistent back pain. Unfortunately, the prospect of consulting with a neurosurgeon in BC to formulate a treatment plan involves an estimated waiting period of over a year, an impractical delay that prolongs Mitch's pain and places a substantial hold on his life.
After extensive research, deliberation with specialists, and making challenging decisions, Mitch has decided to undergo surgery on January 16th in Germany at a private hospital—This is a mere two weeks away. Specifically, he will undergo a total discectomy disc replacement, involving the installation of an artificial mobility disc for his L5-S1 spinal segment.
All associated expenses, encompassing medical costs (hospital fees and surgeon fees), travel expenditures (flights, accommodation, meals, etc.), and the substantial surgery cost totaling over $60,000+, will need to be covered out of pocket by Mitch & Alyssa.
The anticipated surgery is followed by a mandatory seven-day recovery period in the hospital, and an additional seven days at a nearby facility dedicated to rehabilitation efforts. Mitch is optimistic that Alyssa can take the necessary time off work to provide crucial support during this challenging journey.
For those acquainted with Mitch on a personal level, it is evident that he is predisposed to extending help to others but reluctant to seek assistance for himself. Facing the financial strain of covering the entirety of a medical procedure underscores the magnitude of the challenge ahead. Your consideration of a donation, regardless of size, is sincerely appreciated. Alternatively, if monetary contributions are not feasible, we kindly ask you to share this GoFundMe campaign with your network of friends and family. Your support will make a meaningful impact on Mitch's journey to reclaiming a life free from debilitating pain.
