Help Mitch Recover from his Heart Transplant Surgery
Donation protected
As many of you know, our dear friend Mitch underwent a heart transplant surgery recently. The surgery was successful and Mitch is on the mend, but we now are asking for your support, particularly to help with lodging bills that are accumulating. Mitch has been incredibly strong throughout this process, with such positive energy. We are all excited to see him fully recover! Let's show Mitch some of the love that he has shown his friends and family for so long. Any support you can offer is so appreciated. Please read up below.
From Mitch:
Hi all,
As some of you may know, I have a complicated cardiac history. Unfortunately, this was further complicated when my heart was infected with MRSA in July. Because of this, my cardiac team decided the best course of action would be to receive a heart transplant at 30 years old. This is my 6th open-heart surgery. I was fortunate enough to receive a donor heart and the transplant procedure went extremely smoothly. My recovery in the hospital is going extremely well, but I have been in the hospital for about a month (and counting).
While I do have health insurance, the other major cost of this unexpected endeavor is lodging in Seattle for my mom while I am in the hospital and during recovery after I am discharged from the hospital. This will result in us renting a short-term rental in Seattle for about 2-3 months. I am learning how iterative, complex, and challenging the road to recovery is after a heart transplant. Unlike my previous procedures, the recovery is not as linear and requires a lot more monitoring from myself, my mom, and my fantastic care team at UWMC.
My mom and I have been beyond grateful for the immense generosity our family and friends have shown during this life-changing (and saving) journey. From cooking us meals, dogsitting, and checking in on us, it all has meant the world to us. Contributing to this fund would significantly reduce a large portion of the financial burden this procedure and recovery process has imposed on us. I cannot thank you enough and am so excited to celebrate a successful transplant and recovery once I am in the clear this fall!
