Hello friends and family,As many of you now know, our dear friend Mitch Gordon took his own life Saturday April 6th. This came as a shock and surprise to many of us as no one could have seen this coming. As I sit and write this, I am deeply crushed, sad and angry that such a loving, sweet and gentle soul is no longer with us. Many of you knew him to be funny, sarcastic, grouchy, loving and all around good guy. He was the best guy in the world to have a cocktail with (if you could keep up with him), go camping with, BBQ with, road trip with. It was impossible to keep up with his sarcasm & wit, and occasionally have a heart to heart conversation about days gone by. As grouchy as he could be, everybody loved him. His laugh was warm & contagious. A true friend & brother that would run to be by your side if you needed help. whether you knew him 30 years as I did or 6 months. We are lucky to have been blessed with his friendship. A good one has left us.
Now, he needs our help. We are creating a GoFundMe page to cover some of the expenses that will be rapidly approaching. Our goal is to cover the expense of cleaning the aftermath in the apartment, cremate his body and get him down to the Bay Area. Any proceeds left after covering these expenses will be donated to a local suicide prevention organization.
Once he is down in the Bay Area, Jenny & I will host a memorial BBQ to celebrate his life and our love for him. Everyone is invited & will receive ample notice, more on that to come. Soon after that, we will try to deposit his ashes in or near McCovey Cove behind San Francisco Giants stadium. As a lifelong Giants fan, I can’t think of a more appropriate location for his remains.
Thank you all and please consider donating anything you can. Please, feel free to share this link so we can make this happen for him. Let’s get him down here to the Bay Area where he belongs.
Gofundme team has asked that i clarify who I am so here it is for those of you who don't know me.
My name is Charlie Cook (that's my picture on my profile pic), I have known Mitch for close to 30yrs. We were roommates for a few years, and later in life, I was his landlord. We have spent countless trips & days together. The funds will be used to cover any expenses that are unpaid (or that were paid in advance and need to be reimbursed) related to this tragedy. Any of the remaining funds will be donated to Alameda county (where Mitch lived most of his life) We have not pin-pointed which group yet and don't expect to do so before mid July and certainly after his Memorial BBQ. I am certainly open to suggestions.
PS. I am happy to report that Mitch's remains are now here with me. He will be quite literally be with us for his Memorial BBQ on July 13th,2019. If you would like to attend, PLEASE email me [email redacted] or thru DM on Facebook. Love you all and thank you for showing your love and support for our friend Mitch
