Misty's Road to Recovery Fund

Misty Romero is a shining light in the local community of Ventura, California. As the driving force of J Wolf Catering & BBQ for the last 5 years, misty has committed herself to feeding the neighborhood sustainable, high quality affordable food. She has also dedicated her ongoing support to many charitable endeavors. Notably donating thousands of meals to first responders for the duration of the Thomas Fire. Significant support to a number of local causes; Catholic Charities of Ventura County, Turning Point Foundation, The Salvation Army and Casa Pacifica who supports adolescent and family services to treat victims of abuse, homelessness and other mental health issues. Helping the community is just one incredible thing Misty has devoted herself to as well as being a loving wife, dedicated mother to two teenage daughters and a friend to many.
Unfortunately, Misty has had a tough run lately. She is a 3-time cancer survivor and the intense treatments of chemotherapy and radiation caused severe damage to her heart resulting in emergency open heart surgery in April of 2019. Complications from the procedure forced Misty to be hospitalized for almost a year. After returning home January of 2020 she soon suffered an internal staph infection that the doctors felt they had under control. Home life resumed until a few months later when covid hit. As a small business owner, the immense pressure and stress of just trying to keep the doors open and support her family, along with the reemergence of the staph infection led to a downward spiral of Misty and her family.
On January 21st, 2021 she was rushed to the emergency room by her husband, Ernie, at 4:30AM after discovering she couldn’t move her body, a brain hemorrhage had been diagnosed. Soon after, Misty crashed and was fighting for her life, every second mattered. Misty was airlifted from CMH of Ventura to Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara to undergo emergency brain surgery. During her pre-op it was revealed that she had suffered a stroke as well. Following brain surgery, she has remained unresponsive in a coma for the last month. Her doctors remain optimistic and hopeful about her recovery prospect and have transferred her from the Intensive Care Unit at Cottage Hospital to Pleasant Valley St. Johns long term health care facility in Camarillo, where time will be her best friend.
Misty’s road to recovery is going to be long haul. Her family and friends are doing the best they can but have run out of options and resources to support her needs. We are launching a Go Fund Me campaign to help Misty get back on her feet and re-join her family and community that she has been so generous in supporting. All proceeds from this effort will go directly to Misty’s rehabilitation and a hopeful return to a normal life. It takes a village.
