On April 4th Misty was diagnosed with a very rare form of abdominal cancer. 2 people in a million are diagnosed with it. The technical name is"Appendiceal Mucinous Neoplasm with Pseudomyoxma Peritonei". The cancerous appendix produces a gel like substance containing cancerous cells that sticks to everything inside the abdomen. She has a surgery on May 14th called cytoreductive (tumor debulking) surgery to remove everything in the abdomen that has the gel stuck to it including her appendix, gallbladder, spleen, ovaries, uterus, fallopian tubes, abdominal lining, and part of her large intestines which is followed by HIPEC chemo where they fill her abdomen with heated chemo to kill any remaining cancer cells. It's a 10 hour surgery with a 10-12 day hospital stay (3 to 4 of those days in the ICU). It will take several months of recovery as well.
She was not given much time to prepare, much less process her condition before they immediately told her about this very intense surgery, along with a very long hospital stay, as well as chemo. Misty is a fighter, not to mention an incredible teacher, mother, and wife. As you can imagine her entire family is struggling to process all of this, and support her.
Any financial assistance for her and her family during this time would be much appreciated.
