Support Missy's Herniated Disc Surgery Expenses
Donation protected
Hi everyone! My name is Jason, and I'm starting a fundraiser to help cover the medical expenses for my dog Missy's costly upcoming herniated disc surgery.
Missy has been a part of my life since she was rescued from a kill shelter in Kentucky. I adopted her with my ex-wife when she was just 6 months old. Knowing her sweet nature now, I'm incredibly grateful that she was saved and brought into my life.
Unfortunately, the past few months have been financially challenging. I had to pay for my other dog Lilly's ACL surgery in April, followed by numerous expenses for Missy, including a $3,000 MRI. To make matters worse, I recently lost my job of 15 years just as I was about to schedule Missy's surgery.
Given these circumstances, I have reluctantly decided to create this GoFundMe page.
Missy is currently experiencing significant pain due to the herniated disc pressing against her spinal cord. While steroids have provided temporary relief, they are not a long-term solution and can be harmful to dogs when used for extended periods.
The conservative approach of allowing the injury to heal on its own is possible but carries a higher risk of reoccurrence. Additionally, while the pain may subside, the chances of full recovery in terms of motor skills and balance are low.
On the other hand, surgery offers a much lower chance of reoccurrence and will significantly improve Missy's balance and relieve her pain.
Missy will turn 8 years old in August, and I believe that surgery is the best option to ensure she enjoys a good quality of life for at least another 8 years.
The surgery will be performed by Orchard Park Veterinary Medical Center's board certified veterinary neurologist/neurosurgeon, Arielle Herberger, DVM, DACVIM (Neurology).
All funds raised through this GoFundMe will go directly toward covering the surgery costs, including medications, follow-up visits, and post-operative care.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story. Your generous support is immensely appreciated.
