In early June Missy was diagnosed with Stage 3 Angiosarcoma, a rare form of cancer. This page has been created to assist Aaron, Missy, Gabrielle, and Lily with medical costs, traveling fees, and any other misc. expenses during Missy’s fight.
Here is a quick summary of where this road has taken Missy and her family so far:
Diagnosis:
Missy was scheduled for a routine hysterectomy (due to anemia) in late May. During this procedure a tumor was discovered and she was referred to an oncology surgeon in Omaha. Biopsy results indicated that the tumor was Angiosarcoma arising from a mature teratoma and surgery was performed to remove the tumor as well as complete the initial procedure. This specific type of Angiosarcoma is extremely rare with only 8 or 9 documented cases worldwide.
Treatment:
Nebraska does not have a Sarcoma specialist or Sarcoma specialty clinic. Missy and Aaron consulted with Sarcoma Specialists at two facilities out of state. After they visited both facilities and met the doctors, they made a decision to begin treatment in Kansas City at the University of Kansas Cancer Center - Sarcoma Center. She will begin chemotherapy on Thursday, July 5th. She will receive chemotherapy in Kansas on a 21 day cycle with treatments during weeks 1 and 2 of the cycle. She will not receive a treatment during the third week. She will continue with this cycle for approximately 3 months with a possibility for another surgery at the end of the three months. Missy is young and, with the exception of the Angiosarcoma, her body is healthy. She is healing from the two recent surgeries and is doing what she can to strengthen and prepare her body for the fight ahead of her.
Missy, Aaron, Gabrielle, and Lily have been overwhelmed by the love shown to all of them throughout the past few weeks through phone calls, texts, hugs, positive thoughts, prayers, meals, gifts, and encouragement. They are incredibly thankful for each person who has been there to help them out and/or encourage them in some way during some extremely difficult days. The road ahead of them is scary and overwhelming but they know they can make it through one step at a time. ♥️
