Hello all! This is Lauren speaking (Jeff and Missy's daughter). My parents are SUPER proud people and hate the thought of me doing this, but with their permission, I am asking for help on their behalf.
As many of you know, my mom had surgery on her left hip last February, and has been fighting like hell to try and get better. She had her first surgery February 20, 2019, and has been off of her Rheumatoid Arthritis medication since December of 2018. There's no telling the damage her RA is currently doing to her body during this time, not to mention the daily pain and fatigue it's causing her. She needed this surgery because her RA has damaged her joints. She had her right hip done a few years ago as well.
It's really hard to remember all of the details of this horrible journey she's on, but I do know that she's had 27 (and counting) surgeries on this hip and it's STILL not healed. She has had infection after infection, drain tubes, tons of antibiotics, wound care, a cement spacer (which came out of place 3 different times - Never heard anybody scream like that!) and so, so much pain, both emotional and physical.
My dad has been living half his life at home and half on the road going to her or leaving her. The rest of it has been spent working and visiting his grandbabies whenever possible. I'm not sure the man even sleeps anymore! But this has definitely taken a toll on him too, as traveling back and forth and sleeping on a cot in a hospital room can make anyone exhausted. He's been nothing but loving and supportive throughout this process, and my mama has been strong and resilient. They have both been through so much this year.
My mom's case was taken on by a doctor at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She just returned from seeing him and got news she wasn't happy with. She now has to have her hip hardware removed AGAIN and have a block put in. Her hip and leg won't even be connected, and she'll be wheelchair-bound for the coming year. This money will pay for a lift chair (insurance won't cover this), a mobile wheelchair, travel fees going to and from Minnesota, and if there's anything left over it will go toward helping my dad widen the bathroom door so my mom's chair can go in. This is going to be a huge adjustment for them both, and I know they're scared of what's to come. But if anyone can get through this, it's my mom. It's the two of them together. I know they are loved by so many people and the outpouring of help has been amazing. Anything helps. We are so grateful to each and every one of you that have shown support, shared encouragement and lifted them up in prayer. You are all appreciated more than you know. We can't thank you enough.
