Hello all,
I'm MissVespite, a disabled accessibility-device advocate on Twitch , playing Quake & Doom on the Peregrine Gaming Glove, 3d Rudder footboard & highly customizable Swiftpoint Z mouse. I am looking to raise money for my sick kitty who has suddenly & rapidly developed clouded vision over a weekend & requires testing to find the source before he becomes permanently fully blind or deteriorates internally (we are waiting on testing to find out what organ/disease is causing this).
I've had a rough year - this happened only weeks after I, myself, was in the hospital over the last weekend of October, which I'm still recovering from. Both circumstances have created debt I cannot currently afford due to being on a fixed disability income & having a large amount of debt, which includes student loans coming back after deferment next month. If anyone has anything to spare, all donations will first go towards my cat's basic diagnostics so I can make decisions about his treatment, then the rest would go towards paying back family & helping with my personal outstanding hospital bills' balance! Thank you so much in advance to anyone who is able to provide a bit of financial relief - any amount helps.
Meet Wolfenstein, my 8 year old black kitty who up until now has had no eye problems & no officially diagnosed diseases or disorders aside from occasional constipation (jeopardized health back in 2014 but he recovered) & suspected mild asthma triggered by clay litter (triggers successfully avoided).
On Saturday, November 14th, he started exhibiting a hoarse meow, eye discharge & mild lethargy. I had cooked onions earlier in the day & thought maybe the fumes might've irritated him, so I called two 24 vet hospitals to get advice. The consensus seemed to be that I should wait until the morning to see if the irritation had passed. We thought maybe the extremely mild cloudiness (not pictured) was just a film of discharge over the surface of the eye. Turns out it wasn't.
On Sunday, November 15th, his vision rapidly declined & became cloudy, so I was able to get an appointment cancellation booked with a local vet, who did some basic diagnostics, treated his high fever, then determined we would need an Ophthalmologist to consult on Monday. We started him on steroid ointment & oral antibiotics. I called around on Sunday & despite there being several 24 hour vets in the area, none were able to get an Ophthalmologist for me that day/night, so I got the first available appointment at 9am on Monday morning.
By then, to my dismay, he had lost most of his vision & had trouble seeing me unless there were changes in light to direct his attention. I was told to put a cone on him so he would not lick off the medicated ointment I was given. He was purring, needy, but not in significant distress. His eyes declined, but his health didn't seem to & the fever didn't return. He ate a bit, let me administer his meds, & we went to the Ophthalmologist consult.
The severity of the rapid onset corneal edema & uveitis (lipemic aqueous) has the Ophthalmologist thinking that this is caused by an organ that is having trouble, or an underlying disease. He does not believe this is possible with any environmental factors (onion fumes ruled out, coincidental) & none of the basic testing so far is pointing to glaucoma or local eye diseases. We are waiting on the results of more extensive testing to come back, & then we will determine our best course of action. I have borrowed money from financially-strapped family so far to get these initial tests done & I am unable to afford the next step - an abdominal ultrasound that I'm told will be around $500 after we get the results back Tuesday.
For now, I was able to take him home, retire the cone because we have switched to drops instead of ointment & now he is a happy kitty albeit a visionally impaired one. Specialist said we MAY be able to get some of the sight back if we can get the internal trouble diagnosed & treated, but nothing is guaranteed yet. Cats can live happy lives with impaired eyesight, & he's already able to use the litter box & eat despite not being able to see well. He's a determined kitty.
My hospital bills may go to collections if I can't pay them on time, but my cat will NOT RECEIVE CARE if I cannot pay for additional testing, which will add up on top of the money I temporarily owe my family (who really needs it back). So obviously, my cat comes first, then my family, then lastly my credit score/collections avoidance. I get paid on the 21st, but most of my income goes to rent & bills. The more bills I forego to pay back family, the harder it will be to get back on my feet financially, as most everyone knows. I have $100 to my name right now (borrowed), with no available money on my credit cards currently & a credit score too low to take out new credit (Care Credit will not take me due to a defaulted balance in 2014 when unemployed).
In summary, the money we raise this week will help me get Wolfenstein the care he needs on an urgent basis - I am hopeful for a positive prognosis & do NOT wish to allow him to suffer if his health were to sharply decline. The tests will help us determine that prognosis with more accuracy. Thank you so much for your time & any assistance you can offer, be it sharing this GoFundMe with others, or donating anything you can spare!
Your donation will go towards (in the following order, kitty comes first):
Wolfenstein Vet invoices and diagnostic details
MissVespite Hospital remaining balances
