MISS MARINA OWEN WANTS TO TEACH
Donation protected
I have been raised around children my entire life. I was born into a family of educators and have been in a school environment since the day I was born. My mom has been a Special Education teacher for 32 years, my dad is a Clinical Family and Child Psychologist, my sister is a Kindergarten teacher, and my brother is a School Psychologist.
After graduating two quarters early from UCSB, I decided to come back to what I loved most: working with children. I was hired as an Instructional Assistant at the same school I attended when I was in elementary school. Today, I work with many of the same teachers I grew up with.
Having the opportunity to see a variety of teaching styles and learning environments across multiple grade levels has really shown me what is most important in order for students to succeed. I have learned that one of the most important aspects of teaching is creating a safe and fun learning environment so that students feel safe and comfortable enough to come to school each day.
Teachers have a direct impact on their students. We see our work in action and observe changes and growth every day.
When it comes to my teaching goals and aspirations, I am glad to refer to my favorite flower; the L.I.L.A.C. I use this acrostic to remind me about why I want to teach:
- Learn new teaching methods in a cooperative team setting
- Inspire each student on my class list in all aspects of their lives
- Lead every student to a successful level within their own reach
- Accelerate the education of all students
- Change the perspective from "going to school is a duty" to "school is a reward" for children!
This last December, I was accepted to USC's Rossier School of Education. The USC Rossier School of Education is "designed for aspiring K–12 teachers looking to gain the skills and knowledge needed to become great teachers and help all students succeed."
By August of 2017, I will obtain a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, along with a Master of Arts in Teaching, and become an inspiring teacher!
I appreciate your support, confidence, and having you by my side. Together - you can help me make my dream come true.
Thank you!
