My name is Rhonda Holton, and I am a neonatal nurse practitioner in Augusta, Georgia. I have long been involved with Indian Springs Holiness Camp Meeting in Flovilla, Georgia, where I also serve as President of The Indian Springs Ladies’ Fellowship.
I still remember the moment God first stirred my heart toward Honduras. During Indian Springs Camp Meeting in 2008, Angie Overholt spoke on Missionary Day about the needs of schoolchildren in Honduras. She shared that a gift of $50 could provide a child with a full school scholarship—including their uniform and books—for an entire academic year. As I listened, I felt God clearly leading me to give. I quietly handed Angie a check for $50 and walked away. I never imagined that such a simple act of obedience would become the beginning of an international ministry.
In February 2009, I traveled to Choluteca, Honduras, with a mission team from Indian Springs Holiness Camp Meeting. What I saw there changed me forever. I was deeply moved by the overwhelming poverty and the lack of educational opportunities. During that trip, I met a beautiful brown-eyed little girl named Lizzie. She and her family lived in a tiny 6’ x 8’ slatted home. The walls were full of large cracks, the floor was dirt, and everything they owned was stored in plastic bags. Yet Lizzie’s radiant smile and gentle spirit captured my heart. In that moment, God planted the seed for what would become a ministry that has now touched hundreds of lives.
I often reflect and ask myself, What if I had not been obedient? What blessings would I have missed? The more I obeyed God, the more of His kingdom He entrusted to me. The Lizzie Project grew and flourished, and the blessings continued to pour out—not only into my life, but into the lives of children and families across Honduras.
Today, because of generous donors in the United States who caught this vision, Lizzie and her family now live in a safer, warmer home. Lizzie and many others have received the gift of education—an opportunity that opens doors for their future.
Through The Lizzie Project, scholarships are now provided for 350 elementary, high school, and nursing students. In partnership with WGM, we also help support nursing school programs, giving students the chance to pursue meaningful careers and provide for their families and communities. In addition, our mission teams serve through evangelism, village outreach, Bible study, spiritual leadership, and most importantly, by sharing the love of Christ.
What began with a simple $50 gift has become a living testimony of what God can do when we say “yes.”
Any donation would be appreciated, and if you would like a receipt for tax purposes, please just let me know.
You may also donate using my ministry's Zelle account if that works better for you!
