As many of you know, our friend Melissa Nunez has been serving as a missionary in the Philippines for the past two years. When she arrived in January of 2020, she had no idea that the COVID pandemic would soon ravage the world, but she has been faithful to continue to share the Gospel and serve the people God called her to, despite the unusual and difficult circumstances. Many of you have shared in this work by partnering with her financially, and we thank God for you and how God has used your generosity to impact the people of the Philippines.

As Melissa has been preparing to return home in December, she received more unexpected news. A thorough medical check-up revealed a large tumor mass on Melissa’s right adrenal gland (above the right kidney). It is about the size of a grapefruit. On MRI imaging, it looks promising that it is a benign cyst. However, due to its size, there is also a risk that it may be cancerous. After consulting with doctors and surgeons in the Philippines, it is apparent that Melissa will need major surgery to remove the tumor and have it biopsied.

Though this has come as a surprise, we praise God for how He is already providing for Melissa. She is scheduled to see a surgeon at Moffitt Cancer Center, an excellent hospital in Tampa, upon her return to the U.S.

The cost for her treatment is an estimated $10,000 in deductibles, out-of-pocket costs, and other insurance fees.
