Missionary Paul Mooyong Youn Memorial Fund

Donation protected

Missionary Paul Mooyong Youn went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, November 28, 2020, after enduring multiple myeloma (bone marrow cancer), while surrounded by his wife and children in Vancouver, WA. Missionary Youn believed that in his suffering there was healing, not only for himself but all those around him. By participating in his journey of suffering, he believed his community would experience Jesus’ personal healing in their own lives. Missionary Youn has passed on to receive his inheritance in heaven, and we celebrate his life of fulfilling God’s call to share the good news of Jesus in love.  He was a wonderful father, husband, brother, pastor, teacher, and friend who touched the lives of all those around him. He is survived by his wife, Sarah, and two daughters, Prisca and Hanna, as well as his two brothers and mother and father in South Korea.

Missionary Paul Youn was born in Busan, South Korea in 1957 and attended Seoul National University before immigrating to the United States in 1980. During the last semester of his Physics Ph.D program at UC Riverside, he had a life-changing personal encounter with God that ignited a new life of seeking after Jesus Christ, and eventually pursuing full-time ministry.

Missionary Youn wholeheartedly dedicated himself to serving the Lord and trusting him with his life. He enrolled at Golden Gate Seminary (now Gateway Seminary), received his M. Div. through the Southern Baptist Convention, and served and planted churches in the Bay area. After several years of local ministry, he became a full-time missionary for the next two and a half decades, serving around the world to spread the word and love of God. Through his FAN ministry (Friends and Neighbors ministry), he traveled to over 16 nations; in recent years, most frequenting Cambodia, Myanmar, Japan and Israel. His heart was to build up and train young local pastors and missionaries, and encourage and walk alongside veteran coworkers to faithfully continue in their calling from Christ. He also had a special place in his heart for college ministry as he himself became a Christian as a foreign student in graduate school and continued to teach, preach, and pray at schools and university communities, including Seoul National University and Busan National University.

Missionary Youn was a bright light in this world and will be deeply missed by his family, friends, students, and those whose lives have been touched through his ministry and unwavering pursuit of God.

In the wake of his passing, we would like to serve his family by assisting with funeral expenses, and the transition period for his immediate family, as well as support to the mission field in Cambodia, Myanmar, Nepal and India.

We would appreciate any amount you are willing to contribute as a love offering - no donation is too small. Regardless of if you are able to give financially at this time, we would greatly appreciate your love in prayer for the family.

A Celebration of Life for Missionary Youn will be held on Monday, December 7, 2020, at 1pm.
