Scott Millar has been a missionary to Spanish speakers for over thirty years in Argentina, Toronto, Canada and now in Urbana, IL. Now he needs your help and prayers to be able to continue his ministry to Spanish speaking people.

They shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. He will strengthen the weak knees, be transformed by the renewing of your mind. “These portions of the Scripture give us hope that I will be able to walk again and continue to minister in Jesus’ name,” Scott says.

In April 2021, he was diagnosed with a rare progressive neurological disorder called Primary lateral sclerosis.

Primary lateral sclerosis (P.L.S.) is a type of motor neuron disease that causes the nerve cells in the brain that control movement to fail over time. P.L.S. causes weakness in your voluntary muscles, such as those you use to control your legs, arms and tongue. You may experience movement problems, such as difficulty with balance, slow movements and clumsiness. You may eventually experience problems with chewing, swallowing. There is no known cause or cure.

It has been a long, difficult journey for Scott since the gradual onset in of symptoms of imbalance, unusual gait, muscle and joint stiffness starting in 2013. He was sent to physical therapists, chiropractors, acupuncture treatments, knee doctors, multiple MRI’s, x-rays and neurologists. All were unable to give a diagnosis until April 2021. Along with the P.L.S. diagnosis, the neurologist estimated that Scott had about one to two years before the disease would advance to the point of causing immobility that would confine him to a wheelchair.

One of Scott’s doctors, realizing the gravity of the prognosis and taking a personal interest in Scott, recommended stem cell regenerative therapy. These stem cells are harvested from the umbilical cord after birth. This is an option that is increasingly being used with promising results in a wide variety of health problems including motor-neuron diseases.

Stem cells are the body's raw materials, cells from which all other cells with specialized functions are generated. Under the right conditions in the body or a laboratory, stem cells divide to form more cells called daughter cells. These daughter cells either become new stem cells (self-renewal) or become specialized cells (differentiation) with a more specific function, such as blood cells, brain cells, heart muscle cells or bone cells. No other cell in the body has the natural ability to generate new cell types.

Scott and his wife Ruth have decided to follow this doctor’s recommendation. They are scheduled to fly to Pereira, Colombia from September 4-11 at Infinity Medicina Regenerativa, where the specialists are located. This center is jointly operated by U.S and Colombian personnel with the highest level of expertise. They are located there to lower costs and provide the highest quality stem cells at a greater concentration than is available in the U.S.A.
