Mission Trip to Lagutu Uganda

Donation protected
Hello Friends and Family!

I want to first thank you for taking the time out to visit my Go Fund me page, I appreciate you!  I have been truly blessed by God in my path this past year.

The Lord has provided me an opportunity participate
in a short term mission trip with Sports Outreach Institute, which is a nonprofit organization that uses sports as a medium to bring people together and share with them the Good News of Jesus Christ. I will be traveling to Uganda with Lifepoint Church from June 18, 2018 to June 29, 2018. Our group will be teaming up with the indigenous staff of
Sports Outreach to work side by side and serve the local communities working in towns, villages, and slum projects. Our main focus will be to serve in the village of Lagutu which is in the Northern Region of Uganda.

Sports Outreach has been working with severely traumatized children, young adults, and families in Africa for over 27 years seeking to reach as many as possible with God’s redeeming love and Word.  SOI provides a variety of ministry programs which include daily feeding programs, discipleship and counseling, educational support, vocational training, micro-finance programs, and sports ministry. In addition to working with some of the Sports Outreach programs mentioned above, we will have the opportunity to spend time with physically handicapped children, visit growing villages, and share time with HIV positive adults, children, and orphans providing spiritual support and
encouragement. We will also share time worshipping in an African church and spend time with the African staff members.

I am very excited about this opportunity to serve and be a disciple for Christ on the other half of the world, but I cannot do it alone. I would love for you to be able to share in this experience with me.  First of all,
can you pray for me and the team from Lifepoint Church. This mission trip is going to be an amazing spiritual experience, but we will need prayers as we prepare to serve God and minister to His people. Please keep my sponsor child Tonny and the women in recovery of Christine's House in your prayers.  We will also need prayers for our financial needs to be met. The costs of traveling to Africa are high and each participant is required to raise his/her own funds. Sports Outreach is making every effort to keep the costs down, but there’s still an expense to travel across the ocean. With their efforts, each team member will still be required to raise approximately $3,000.00 in order to travel, which is quite a challenge. All of the proceeds that I raise will go directly for my airfare, lodging, ground transportation and food.

A second way that you can help and be involved is to by providing financial support. Would you consider supporting me and making a small donation? Any contribution you make to support me through Lifepoint Church is completely tax-deductible. If you feel led to contribute, please make your donation here. When I return, I would be glad to share with you my experiences through photographs and conversation.

I cannot make this journey by myself, nor do I want to as I
would love to share it with you. Whether you are able to contribute through prayers or financially, your support will be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions.

I cannot wait to be a part of this great opportunity that God has shared with me. I am excited to see how God is going to use me and excited to see what He is going to teach me on this trip! Any funds donated above my goal will go towards the Hairdressing Vocational Program with Christine's House.

May God bless you with the blessings you have given me and the people of Lagutu.

If you would like to hear my personal story/call to Uganda, please continue reading.....

For those who don't know me, my name is Brandy Alexander.  After many years of not attending church, I decided in July 2017 to get a feel for some churches.  Well I called this "church dating", thinking I may find a church I liked.  Never would I imagine the overwhelming love and comfort I experienced walking through the doors at Lifepoint Church.  God struck me with a love at first sight moment, at the very first church I "dated".  Needless to say I dove right in and trusted what the Lord had placed in my path!

Lifepoint held an incredible 21 days of prayer shortly after I started attending.  The 21 days of prayer was a time we all got together daily at 6am to pray for one another and intentionally start our day with God being first.  I stepped in thinking I was getting a lesson in prayer, however by the end of 21 days I was a new person!

This is when Uganda wrote it's self into my story.  One morning during the 21 days we prayed over missions and watched a video of previous visits in Lagutu, Uganda.  During which there was information on sponsorship of a child.  I was instantly touched!  As someone who doesn't wish to have my own children, my heart sung at the opportunity to help provide a better life to child in need.  Immediately, I signed up with Sports Outreach Ministry to be a special little boy, Tonny's sponsor!  Through this sponsorship Tonny has been able to have the medical care, education, and food necessary for him to carry on a healthy life and focus on his studies.

A few weeks after becoming a sponsor, I took a look through Sports Outreach's website.  I discovered they offer vocational training in hairdressing.  As a hairdresser and educator,  I had this overwhelming call to visit Uganda and learn more about this program.  I finally knew the purpose behind God's plan for me.  All my training and experiences in the hairdressing industry have prepared me for this next phase in my life.

This program is called Christine's House.  Christine’s House is a girls’ rescue program started in March 2014 in Gulu, Uganda in partnership with Freedom 424 and Sports Outreach, with the aim to holistically restore girls who have undergone various types of sexual trauma.  Girls come to Christine's house to complete six months of spiritual and trauma counseling and vocational skills training. After the six months they are brought back to their villages.  Support is then provided to those who want to continue formal education with tuition and those who would want to hone their vocational skills (tailoring, baking, hair-styling) with business support.

The thought of sharing my gifts in business and hairdressing to these women is inexpressible.  Hairdressing provided me the freedom to become an adult and express my creativity, however to these women having a career in hairdressing could mean complete independence from a past of abuse.  They would be able to provide for their families and take their gifts whereever their journey may take them.  My hope during this visit is to make first connections with the leadership in the program at Christine's House.  Discover their needs or voids in the hairdressing program and work with them on finding soultions to reach more women.  My next steps will be to work with my exisiting business and relationships to help provide steady funding and hairdressing tools/ supplies.

Only time will unfold, the amazing movement and healing this partnership could create.  I'm overwhelmed that the Lord placed this on my heart.  It is scary but exciting to have the ability to share my divine gifts with others and help them to discover their gifts.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about my journey to Uganda, and what I hope to accomplish and take away from this mission.  Please keep us in your prayers.  If you are not able to donate towards my Go Fund Me, please consider dontating medical supplies or gently used items I can leave with my new Ugandan friends.  Their needs are simple compared to ours so any items you find are trash they will find as treasure.  I will be taking supplies at my salon - Groove Jet Salon Co. 112 Princess St Wilmington, NC 28401

God Bless You!
