MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR SHERRY WU

My mother Sherry (Xue Y. Wu) didn't make it and passed on Aug. 31 at 3:57 am. She fought very hard for the two months she was in the hospital and the LTAC. She passed away in her sleep besides the hard time breathing, she did pass away very peacefully. We are planning a funeral memorial and restore her youth before her surgeries. I am sure she would like to be remembered as a beautiful strong independent woman prior to the damage caused by the stroke. Following chinese traditions, she would need a beautiful casket to be cremated in. Her urn will be brought back to China to be buried next to my grandparents and the rest of the Liu family. We will be holding a service for her close friends in Houston as well as a service in China for family and friends. All the funds will go directly to making sure she can rest in peace.

On July 3rd, 2020, my mother, Sherry (Xue Y. Wu) was rushed to the hospital due to a Hemorrhagic Stroke. The doctors performed brain surgery on her to stop the bleeding and had a craniotomy procedure to stabilize her. However, a few days after the surgery, her left lung had pneumothorax and required multiple tubes inserted into her lungs as well as a ventilator to help her to breathe. Her condition took a harsh turn and now her right lung is collapsing. Currently, my mother is staying at Houston Methodist Hospital and requires extensive attention at the Intensive Care Unit(ICU).

My mother is a woman with a strong will to live despite many hardships throughout her life. Anyone who knows my mother can attest that she is incredibly resilient to many of her life adversities. She had to raise two children in addition to working long hour shifts as a chef in her local restaurant. Her continuous will to live has helped her overcome many obstacles such as  tuberculosis as a child and battling breast cancer. As a survivor of breast cancer, I firmly believe that she will continue to stay strong and overcome this hurdle.

Because of the current situation with COVID-19, my family is not able to visit her and has to rely on daily zoom calls to connect with her and give her the strength she needs to combat this illness. Everyday, I cannot go to sleep because I am worried about my mother. This makes it very hard on the whole family not being able to comfort her when she’s all alone in the hospital unable to understand english.

This fund is established to help my family alleviate the financial burden of the hospital medical bills. Unfortunately, my mother does not have health insurance, and I was notified that the bill exceeds $282,000 and will continue to rise as she stays in the hospital for medical treatment. On top of hospital care, if she survives, my mother will also require physical therapy and speech therapy treatments when she starts her road to recovery. My dad is 65 and has high blood pressure and he isn't working due to her critical condition this month. It will mean the world to Sherry (Xue Y. Wu) and my family with every donation we receive from this gofundme. On behalf of the Liu family, I would like to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for donating and cheering my mother on as she fights this illness.

Sincerely her daughter & son,
