Mission on the Move
"I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams." Acts 2:17
Mission on the Move is the product of the youth of Marlton United Methodist Church having a vision and dreaming of a ministry for our neighbors close and far. We will be leaving on July 22 for our mission trip and need your help to close our fundraising gap. As of the beginning of our 36 hour campaign, we are hoping to raise the last $2250 to cover scholarships and expenses as we learning and serving all the way to Kansas City.
Our hope is that you can support our efforts in the following way beginning with the most urgent need:
1) Pray for our journey and for all those persons we will have the opportunity to serve. That God guides our hands and our hearts and through our service we are inspired and informed on how to bring that service home.
2) Share our request with friends and families. Ask them to join us in prayer and to share in our journey.
3) We ask for your financial support as you are able and as you are called. Any amount will help and we know that God will provide.
This is a 36 hour fundraiser that begins July 17th at Noon EST and will end July 18th at Midnight.
The Journey
We embark on our journey on Sunday morning, July 22. From there we will travel to Columbus, Ohio, St. Louis, Missouri, and then stay for a while in Kansas City. We will be serving and learning along the way, serving alongside the leaders of different groups and communities. While in St. Louis we will be serving in a community kitchen and learning about outreach ministries especially with the community in Ferguson. In Kansas City, we will be serving and learning from the Church of the Resurrection from their Leawood campus and their relatively new location downtown, where a broad cross-section of the community serve and worship together.
Along the way, we will spend time in prayer, study, and working on the ministry of the Community Hub at Marlton UMC. (Story below) This has been a ministry that was started and is led by the youth of the congregation. Our hope is to provide a place of healing and harmony to our neighbors in Marlton.
Your prayers and donations are supporting the youth for this mission trip to allow them to serve and learn. This is also an investment in the future of the Community Hub as the youth will be equipped and inspired to carry out God's vision for this ministry.
Thank you for your support of our youth and their vision and their ministry.
The Story of the Community Hub
The Community Hub, known as "The Mansion" on the grounds of Marlton UMC has had many seasons of ministry. Besides previously serving as a true mansion in the area, it was also the Sunday School Building, the church offices, and most recently a thrift shop. As the thrift shop began to wind down, the youth went inside the mansion and sat in different rooms to ask for a vision of what God wanted to do in this place. The message was clear that this was to be a place that would bring the community together and to provide hope and healing to all who would enter.
Shortly thereafter, the youth began workdays to clear out, clean up, and refresh the downstair spaces. They continue to gather most Saturdays as they continue to paint the walls with thirteen feet ceilings! They have inspired a number of adults to join in and several ministry opportunities have been set to begin in the Fall. But the youth continue to look to God to inspire and inform on how to best utilize this new space.
As the work continues on the mansion, the mission trip was formed to both serve others along the way and to learn from church communities who are already doing similar work in their neighborhoods. Our Mission on the Move is to explore the many ways that God is moving in His church and in this world. The vision continues to be shaped and reshaped, but we know that God is in control.
