Seigen's Journey Through Vision Recovery
Donation protected
Greeting friends,
In mid-October, I was diagnosed with a rare, degenerative cornea disease called Fuchs Dystrophy (complicated by corneal ectasia and uveitis . Essentially, some of the cells in my cornea are dying. Additionally, the loss of cells and the shape of my cornea are causing more inflammation and vision distortion. As you can imagine, this is unsettling, painful, and humbling; especially since I am still recovering from the pulmonary embolism from 2020. Fortunately, I am in the early stages of Fuchs Dystrophy and I have access to excellent health care through Mass Eye & Ear here in Boston. However, in the short-term, the diagnosis requires some immediate and unexpected life changes which I am financially unprepared to assume on my own.
Many of you know that I was intending to graduate from the Boston University School of Theology (STH) Master of Divinity Program in December. Upon diagnosis, I had to drop two of my classes this semester and delay graduation until May 2024. I am grateful to STH for approving this extension. At the same time, I will be unable to start the full-time job I was offered beginning in February. Additionally, I have already had significant increases in medical expenses: physician appointments, testing, treatment and medication, etc. I’m told these expenses will continue through April as I have to see three separate specialists.
Any financial support you can offer is greatly appreciated. I am so encouraged by the support and well wishes I have already received and I welcome written expressions of love, care, and friendship, as well. Message me for my address.
Many thanks and gratitude for considering my request.
Warm bows, seigen
