Hi! This is Amanda, Joan’s daughter! My mom has stage 4 liver cancer. Every year my mom takes a trip to Arizona to visit family and friends. This year, she knew would be her final visit and her plan was to visit family/friends for a couple weeks and then head to Vegas for a few days to see Donny Osmond. I was also flying out to surprise her and make some wonderful memories. Unfortunately, while in Arizona she started having severe hip/back pain, which over the course of the two weeks got to the point where she could not walk and a had to call a squad to get her to a hospital in Arizona. The hospital did a CT scan and found that she has a broken sacrum that has actually detached from her spinal cord (no wonder she is in so much pain)! The break was caused by cancerous lesions. There is not anything this hospital can do other than pain management (which they have been wonderful) but we NEED to get her home to her oncologist and medical team. We had originally hoped to get her on a commercial flight but there is just no way that will be possible. She cannot stand the transfer and the long flight. The medical direction we are being given is to have a medical transport. We are looking into this, a medical flight is $32,000 and medical ground is $16,000. All out of pocket. We are working with the insurance, but that could take days or even weeks and we need to get her back to Ohio ASAP! If anyone is able to donate anything, any amount would help!
