The Problem: A Critical Need in Tenerife
Every year, thousands of people visit Tenerife, and while it's generally safe with one of Europe’s lowest crime rates, it has one of the highest missing persons rates for a region in Spain. This is largely due to the combination of millions of tourists in unfamiliar surroundings.
Missing persons cases here often fall into a few broad categories:
- Communication Breakdown: Visitors who lose their phone or have it stolen, making them unable to contact loved ones.
- Hiking Incidents: Walkers who become disorientated or dehydrated in remote, mountainous areas.
- Health Issues: Cases involving medical emergencies or mental health crises.
Without local knowledge, getting help can be a significant challenge, especially with a language barrier. For families living thousands of miles away, the search for a loved one can be overwhelming.
Our Solution
Recognising this critical need, Missing Persons Tenerife provides a vital link between concerned families and the local community. We offer a single point of contact and a safe, trusted platform for sharing information and coordinating efforts. Our deep understanding of the island's challenging terrain, coupled with an appreciation of the local culture, allows us to provide targeted support where it's needed most.
About Me
My name is Deborah, and I have made my home in Tenerife. As a long-time IT architect, I've spent my career building organised, effective systems. I'm also a keen hiker, explorer, and sailor, which has given me a personal understanding of this island's unique environment.
In 2023, when a fellow traveller went missing, I saw firsthand the urgent need for a dedicated local resource. That experience inspired me to volunteer on missing persons cases with some success. I now run Missing Persons Tenerife, and I am committed to using my skills and local knowledge to help others navigate a search.
How You Can Help
Your generous support is vital to our mission and directly funds our operations. Donations are used to cover essential overhead costs like maintaining our website and providing a dedicated phone number to ensure we are always accessible. More importantly, your contributions enable our direct work on individual cases, helping to cover expenses such as:
- Volunteer travel for physical searches in specific areas.
- Printing posters to raise local awareness.
- Providing immediate, on-the-ground help to missing persons once they are found (e.g., clothing or a new mobile phone).
We consider all cases on their individual merit, but you have the option to donate towards specific needs. If you have a particular purpose for your donation, please contact us or leave a note in the donation comments.
