This is so hard. We are talking about my daughter. So scary. Still sick, still in the hospital and still not done with chemo. Well before all this; no sickness, new job, new life, new career. Then, a scheduled exam, a spot on a screen. No worry, can’t be cancerous but it was. So, chemo while working as a new teacher… all three kids start going to the same school. Wonderful co-teachers, very supportive. Maybe she can make it through chemo without missing much work, without missing the children in her class. Co-teachers donating sick time.
Then this, second phase of chemo. Said to be rougher. Too rough !! Takes her down. Infection, hospital, scary low vitals. In for a week, out finally. Two days later, back to the hospital in worse condition. ICU, entire family panicked. Worried she won’t make it. Still there as I write this. Truth is, even when she gets out again, more hard times; can’t go back to work until treatments are done. (1) salary gone, (2) might need tuition to cover her kids now, (3) ICU medical co-pay bills will be crazy, (4) need to finish a rough basement so that family can have a place to stay to help her heal. Parents and in-laws are doing all they can but still, this is nuts.
So this, a go fund me. It’s embarrassing to her but so many people have asked what they could do to help Alanna. At first, we didn’t know what to say. “Send cards, letters, love, prayers - no money needed, she is still going to work.” But now we know money will help. No pressure, if you can’t donate, then cards, letters and prayers are still good. Gofundme asks for a target amount. $25,000 seems appropriate considering the need. But that’s too much to ask for, she said. So, we settled on $10,000. If that much money is raised, we will be forever grateful. Maybe that will be enough to get her and her husband back on their feet after she gets out of the hospital. But yeah, she still has to finish chemo and maybe surgery. By the way, she is only 41 years old and people really love her. Like, right away, they love her. I thank God for her.
Also sending love to Bloom Community School in Normal, IL where she had just started working and enrolled her kids just a few weeks before cancer was detected. If you donate to schools…
