Miss Sarajevo Returns: Documentary Crowdfunder

Short Summary
Hi my name is Albie - thanks for visiting our fundraiser for my documentary short, Miss Sarajevo Returns. The film is about Inela Nogic, a teenage beauty queen crowned during the Bosnian War who confronts the legacy of fame, exploitation, and survival.
We’ve secured initial funding, but we need your support to make this film a reality. By contributing, you’re helping us reframe a forgotten history, bringing it to the screen. Your support will make a massive difference in how this film reaches audiences and sparks dialogue around consent, the media machine during war and celebrity humanitarianism.
What We Need
We have been fortunate to have received backing from a big film and television charitable organisation, but in order to complete production and post-production for Miss Sarajevo Returns, we are looking to raise an additional £5,000.
Here’s a breakdown of where the funds will go:
Translation costs: translating the footage from Bosnian to English
Post-Production: Editing, Grade, Colour
Festival Submissions: We plan to submit the finished film to festivals around the world to get it in front of as many eyes as possible and give it the recognition it deserves.
If we don’t reach our full goal, any funds raised will go towards the most crucial elements of production, ensuring we can still make the film. However, the more we can raise, the more we can do to make this project the best it can be.
The Impact
Miss Sarajevo Returns takes the personal story of a woman from Sarajevo and connects it to urgent, modern-day questions about conflict. How are we, as Westerners, complicit in consuming media from afar? How are we all complicit in consuming conflict from afar? And who gets to speak - and who gets spoken for?
This isn’t just a film for history buffs - it speaks directly to the present. Thirty years on from the Bosnian War, how are symbols used to simplify, sell, or silence complex human experiences?
Other Ways You Can Help
We fully appreciate that not everyone can contribute financially, and that’s okay! You can still help by:
Share our campaign with your friends, family, and followers!
Tell your community: If you know anyone who would connect with this story or the importance of the project, pass it along.
Every little bit helps, whether it’s through financial support, spreading the word, or simply showing encouragement.
Thank You
