Hello, I’m Sophie Lloyd, your Miss Garden City!
As I embark on this incredible journey as Miss Garden City, I’m dedicated to representing Missoula at the Miss Montana Competition in June. During my time in this organization I will be fundraising and advocating for the Montana Youth Diabetes Alliance. Type 1 diabetes is a cause close to my heart, having impacted my loved ones for the past 13 years. It is a condition I continue to learn about and strive to understand more deeply.
Each year, approximately 61,000 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, 21,000 of whom are under the age of 20. With the rising costs of medical supplies, many individuals living with diabetes are forced to ration their insulin in order to make it to their next paycheck—a practice that can have serious short-term and long-term health consequences. The Montana Youth Diabetes Alliance has been instrumental in providing essential support to families impacted by type 1 diabetes, offering both educational opportunities and financial assistance to ensure that no one faces this challenge alone.
In addition to my advocacy efforts, I am a sophomore at Montana State University, studying Graphic Design and Art History. I’m also expanding my creative horizons by studying metalsmithing, and I hope to further develop my passion for jewelry making after graduation. Additionally, I am currently enrolled in a women’s welding course at Gallatin College, where I am gaining valuable skills in a traditionally male-dominated field.
My experience in pageantry began in my childhood, where I had the privilege of meeting Miss Tennessee 2011 and Miss Wisconsin 2012. At the time, I viewed these women as princesses, but as I’ve matured, I’ve come to admire state titleholders for their leadership, dedication, and the positive impact they have in their communities. I’m incredibly excited to be part of this journey, and I look forward to meeting and learning from the inspiring young women across the state of Montana.
Donations to this fund will support my journey to the Miss Montana Competition in June.
