Hello! My name is Kate Cahill. I am a passionate, hard-working teacher living in Denver, Colorado. This is my 6th year as a teacher, second year teaching in Denver Public Schools, and my second year at HCAS. At our school, we are determined and devoted to do school differently. We want to make it a fun, inspiring, joyful place for all students. For those of you who know me, I give my heart and soul to my students--past and present--and want nothing but success for each one.
I have the great privilege of teaching Language Arts to an incredible population of diverse 6th grade students who come to me with a variety of learning needs. My students are world changers; they are intelligent, creative, passionate, high-energy, loud, and inspiring! I learn every day from watching them walk in the shoes they've been given and have the honor to walk alongside each student through the good, the bad, and the very ugly moments. They're worth every lost hour of sleep, the headaches, tears, and pennies spent.
Kids in general are high-energy and extremely active. Just like adults, students are not meant to sit for 80 minutes straight in an uncomfortable chair that squeaks loudly every time they move. They are meant to move around, bounce, dance, and expend energy! One way to help release this energy in a positive way is with flexible seating. In order to help my students achieve maximum academic achievement, they need the right space to do so where they feel safe, comfortable, and encouraged, no matter where they are in their academic journey.
This is where you come into the picture. I am hoping to revamp my entire space to make it a place where my students are excited to come in and learn. Reading and writing are two of the most crucial skills any human being needs to lead a successful life and make an impact on the world. With this flexible seating, it gives my students a chance to move as they please without being a distraction to their fellow classmates. Because there are numerous seating options, it gives the child a choice and helps them feel empowered to take responsibility of their own learning. When they're in a space they enjoy, they are more productive!
My number one job, besides keeping each child safe, is to help give them every opportunity in the world to succeed and feel the "win" many so badly need. By donating to my classroom, you can help me accomplish this goal in a much needed way. If you click on this link http://a.co/0gAT4np you will be led to my Amazon Wishlist to see exactly what your money is going towards. If you feel like this is something you'd like/are able to donate to, we in 307 will be deeply grateful.
Sincerely,
Kate Cahill and the 6th grade all-stars
