I'm Maya Rose Phillips, the reigning Miss Black South Carolina USA, from Jonesboro, Georgia. I currently live in Columbia, South Carolina. I’m a 27-year-old graduate student at South Carolina State University, studying to obtain a Master’s of Arts in Teaching/Elementary Education. I’m also honored to work as a Graduate Assistant at SCSU in Orangeburg, SC as an assistant, tutor, and mentor in the Student Success, Retention, and Trio Programs. I received my Bachelors of Arts from Valdosta State University in May 2016. At VSU, I majored in English and minored in African-American Studies, a program founded by my mentor/soror, Dr. Shirley Hodge Hardin . I love fitness/health, playing tennis/basketball, swimming, cooking, writing, reading, traveling, and fine arts. I'm a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., & received an award for VSU's Best Sorority during my term as Chapter President.

I’ve had the honor of being awarded HOT 103.9/93.9’s Future Leader of South Carolina 2021, South Carolina Commission for Minority Affairs Student Achiever Award 2021, Shoutout Atlanta Spotlight Article 2020, Voyage ATL’s Who You Should Know 2019, Miss Jonesboro USA 2019, Miss Columbia USA 2018, Who’s Who Among American Colleges & Universities 2016, Valdosta State University’s Miss Superlative 2016, African-American Studies Student of the Year 2015, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.'s Little Miss Jabberwock. I’ve held numerous positions at Valdosta State University including Chapter President for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Vice President of Sigma Tau Delta English Honors Society, Secretary of Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity, International, Secretary of Habitat for Humanity, National Council of Women Parliamentarian, and NAACP Finance Committee. I've received a merit scholarship to pursue my juris doctorate and instead decided to pursue a career in education due to my strong desire to teach/empower children.

In 2014, I began uplifting social/international awareness issues like Human Trafficking by founding my own forum titled, “STOP and Get Informed”. I travel to various schools, churches, and community events in SC & GA to speak on awareness & prevention. In January 2020, I was honored with the title of Miss Black South Carolina USA and became a part of the Miss Black USA Organization. With the hopes of possibly becoming Miss Black USA, I plan to continue advocating, public speaking, leading, and being a role model for teenagers/young adults all over the world while representing the organization on a national level & continuing my, "STOP & Get Informed" forums.

I've been competing in pageants since 4-years-old when I won South Carolina's "That's My Baby Contest" and I'd love to continue on this journey representing the state of South Carolina for the opportunity of a lifetime on a national competition stage! This ROSE is blooming into her new season. With your donation, I will be closer to the national competition. THANK YOU & GOD BLESS!
