Hello Family and Friends,
My name is Shakaria Buckson and I am the reigning Miss Black Maryland USA 2019. The Miss Black USA Organization is the first and oldest scholarship pageant for women of color. The pageant empowers women to own their power and it celebrates their unique talents, traits and beauty. Miss Black USA defines her own standard of beauty and celebrates the black woman, mind, body and spirit, all shades of brown, hair texture and size.
Absolutely nothing can be accomplished without a village, therefore, I need YOUR HELP! In order for me to compete in the pageant I need to raise funds for my pageant entry, pageant hotel fee, coaching sessions, and attire! All of these expenses add up to $5000. I only need 100 people to donate $50 and I will reach my goal. But, any donation large or small will help! :)
Over the course of my life, I've made it a point to be my authentic self in all spaces regardless if no one looks, acts, or thinks like me. Overall, I am a Black woman transcending stereotypes. My life's mission is to change the negative connotation and various stigmas associated with being a Black Woman. Black women are multi-faceted creatures by nature because of our heritage, environment, and cultural backgrounds. As a collective we must begin to embrace all forms of black intellect, socioeconomic status, wants, needs, desires, hair, skin tones, and unique talents in order to progress forward.
I will be so grateful for you contribution which will greatly aid in the success of my reign. Your help will also ensure that I will be able to participate in the Miss Black USA pageant on Sunday August 11, 2019.
