Sharon Aiken – “Miss Aiken” to most of us – is one of the most universally beloved teachers in the history of Monticello, GA. In a career that spanned well over thirty years, she touched the lives of generations of students through her passion, kindness, and dedication.

For decades, Sharon inspired countless students to embrace literature, find their voices, and believe in themselves. Her classroom was a safe space where students felt supported and encouraged. Sharon gave so much to others, and now she’s facing one of life’s greatest challenges.

Recently, Sharon suffered a health crisis that has left her needing long-term care and rehabilitation. Unfortunately, Sharon has very few family members nearby to help, and the costs of medical bills, ongoing therapy, and daily care are quickly becoming overwhelming.

“Miss Aiken” didn’t just teach us English – she showered us with love at a time in our lives when many of us desperately needed it. Now is our opportunity to return that love – to demonstrate that Sharon Aiken has a massive extended family of former students, colleagues, and friends that extends well beyond the confines of Jasper County.

This GoFundMe campaign has been created to help cover Sharon’s medical expenses and provide the specialized care she needs to recover and maintain her quality of life. Sharon is a fighter, and with your support, she can focus on healing without the crushing worry of financial strain.

The purpose of this fundraising effort is to raise money for Miss Aiken’s care, and all funds will be used for that purpose. No one associated with this effort will accept one cent for their part in the campaign, and we will collectively determine the best and most effective way to dispense the funds, so as to avoid interfering with existing insurance coverage.

Any and all unused funds will be used to establish a scholarship in Sharon Aiken’s honor for a graduating Jasper County High School student.
