Help a Teacher with a chronic illness.
Hi all! This is such a humbling experience for me, but I’m out of options. My husband doesn’t make enough to carry the load, nor is he eligible for health insurance, and I recently was released from my teaching contract (after a miscommunication occurred) at a charter school in my home town. I have applied for every job I can find, both teaching and not. I ended up at this charter school after going on 60 interviews and moving states, after being let go from another contract due to having a chronic illness (the reference I’m given from the district who let me go in the other state hasn’t been ideal). I have applied for cash aid, cal fresh, state insurance, and other state assistance. All of these companies are backlogged due to Covid, so it’ll take 10 days or more to get approved or denied. I am in dire need of help, due to the fact that I am a kidney patient and I cannot afford to buy my medicine this month, as the charter school had to terminate my benefits within hours of me being let go. If I don’t get these meds, my kidneys will start to both fail, putting me in kidney failure within minutes. I have been on these meds for two years and they truly saved my life. I just used the last of my savings to pay our mortgage and our $600 electric bill. I am down to our last bit of money to buy groceries for the month, but with a medication that costs over $15,000, I have no idea how I’ll be able to afford it so that I can stay healthy to find another job. I take care of my 93 year old grandmother with dementia (she lives with me) and have two teenagers about to start school and they are stressed for me, which is a hard pill for me to swallow. Even $5.00 will help me reach my goal so that I can afford my kidney medicine for the month of August and whatever is left once I buy those, I vow to pay it forward!! Thank you in advance. ❤️
