Our 5 year old Northern Inuit dog, Miska, after weeks of yelping has been diagnosed with L7/S1 disc protrusion causing marked stenosis of the vertebral canal and bilateral hip dysplasia, with mild to moderate osteoarthrosis on the left side and coxofemoral subluxation with subsequent poor acetabular covering.
She is currently unable to jump up in any way, even step up anywhere and cries every time she even comes in the garden back door. She’s basically been floor bound in the living room and we’ve not had our happy, bouncy, playful girl for a while now.
We need to manage her pain with strong medications each day, using supplements for her hips, start taking her to hydrotherapy as soon as we can and the surgery that’s been offered to us for her spine is estimated around £9000-£10,000 and this doesn’t include after care treatment, medication along the way, supplements, future therapies or hip treatment.
We aren’t able to help with her hips (hydrotherapy) until we sort the pain in her spine and we are trying strong medications, but are going to need to look at surgery or her quality of life and if it’s not fair for her to be in this pain for the rest of her life.
We are feeling stuck at the moment with a new baby on the way, selling and moving house and now this massive shock. We cannot believe this is the price of the surgery and not even covering anything else along the way. We hate asking for help but over the next few months we are going to be spending so much on Miska and need to try and raise the surgery fund if we can.
If we can’t get close to the surgery fund money or aren’t able to do the surgery, we will use this fund to continue with strong pain medication, supplements and hopefully hydrotherapy and just hope we can give her her best life for as long as possible.
Thank you all for reading our girls story and for all your kind messages of love and support. It means so much xx
