Miska's surgery

Donation protected
We have received an estimate from Kindred Spirits Vet Hospital for the removal of a growth on Miska's side. The biopsy we had done last month is not conclusive, so we don't know if it is benign or malignant. Dr. Claudia believes it is not malignant based on the cell type (spindle cells) from the limited biopsy we got. Since the growth has more than doubled in size over the past year, we think that it should be removed. The cost of this surgery and more complete biopsy of the tumor is just under $1400, so we have raised the overall fundraising goal to $7400. Your support in reaching the initial goal of $6000 for her ACL surgery is greatly appreciated. Any assistance you can contribute to help us cover this next surgery would also be very helpful. Miska's surgery date is January 16th at Kindred Spirits Clinic/Hospital in Victoria. We will go ahead with the procedure even if we do not reach the goal.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity,
Brent, Pamela & Miska

Hi, my name is Miska and I was born in northern Canada 5 years ago. I'm a Husky Whippet cross and was bred as a sled dog. The humans thought that by combining these breeds, I would be faster at pulling sleds. I was still a puppy when I was flown to Vancouver, BC. It was there that I met my new Dad, Brent, who adopted me. He trained me to be a service dog to help him with his health challenges. I am his best friend, and he takes excellent care of me. I run and play on the beach and live my best life as a Vancouver Island dog.  While I was running, I ruptured my anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and likely tore the meniscus as well. This is common in high-energy dogs like me. My Dad took me to the vet, who took x-rays, and they said that the only option for me to be able to walk normally was surgery to repair my knee. This will be very expensive for my Dad. I will also need rehabilitation after the surgery to be mobile for the rest of my life. I am asking for help to raise money to pay for the surgery, rehab, and follow-up vet appointments. My Dad cannot afford the estimated $6000 cost of surgery and rehab, so we are creating this fundraiser in hopes of helping him get the care that I need. Thank-you for helping my Dad help me walk again!
