Help!! My very old and outdated computer is about to die!! Since 2009 I have designed over 1,200 posters (!!) on the same iMac. Each poster is made with love and a desire to give everyone involved something beautiful not just to promote the gig but also to cherish long after the lights of the venue are dimmed. It's mind boggling to think of how many thousands of hours I have spent sitting in front of the screen that I am staring at right now.
The fact is that I haven't been able to update the operating system on this computer since 2011. As a result, I haven't been able to update any of the software in almost as many years. The versions of Photoshop and Illustrator I use are from 2010. I can only run Firefox because all the other web browsers no longer work on this computer. Many websites cannot be viewed because this computer no longer supports Flash. Everyday I have to delete old files to make room for new posters. I hate to do that, but one can no longer buy external hard drives that are compatible with this OS (I have backed many of them up on the cloud). It's a constant struggle of rainbow wheels, warnings and blank screens. This adds hours to each day, constant frustration and prevents me from growing my business and accomplishing what I want to with the current posters I am making.
As a graphic designer this computer has and is my livelihood. If you have worked with me you know that I charge as little as I can possibly charge because I want to contribute to everyone's art and music even though no one makes money in music or art anymore. I do this with no complaint, I love it. But I haven't any savings to invest in a computer. And the computer is how I make money.
As a 'Thank You" I have made a special poster that features 380 of my favorite designs from the last 10 years. Nearly 150 different music venues are represented on the poster and more bands than I can count. It is a visual representation of the local Bay Area local music scene of the last decade, plus posters I have made for bands and venues (large and small) around the USA and across the Europe. Anyone who donates $30 or more will get a frameable print shipped directly from me. I'll sign it to!!
I hope to continue to make posters for everyone. I hope to continue to add a little more beauty to the world. Many of my posters are framed and hanging in homes, rehearsal studios, bar walls, garages, etc. That makes me very very proud. I hope to make many more memories with y'all.
