About The Project

Mirror Man is psychological thriller which follows an overlooked and under appreciated, Jaylen “J” Ellis who is determined to get the new promotion at work. After a co-worker gives him a business card that he promises will provide him with the success he is striving for, Jaylen visits Uncle Mo’s Barbershop - which transforms ambitious men of colour. After a fresh new haircut, he returns to work sharper and more successful, but he soon begins losing time, memory, and control. Haunted by a darker reflection in the mirror, he must choose: stay true to himself or fully assimilate.

Mirror Man is a Swinburne University student short film which explores assimilation, identity and ambition. The film has finished production and we are now in post-production!

Our goal is to create a bold, visually striking psychological thriller that sparks conversation about identity, ambition and the cost of assimilation in the workplace

The funds we raise will allow us to secure key locations, fairly support our cast and crew, elevate the film’s visual world, and give the project the strongest possible life beyond production through festival submissions.

Most importantly, this crowdfunding campaign gives us the opportunity to tell a story that feels urgent and relevant while championing diverse voices both in front of and behind the camera.
