Miriam’s Battle against high-grade ovarian cancer
Donation protected
Hey everyone,
I am Miriam, a 31-year-old woman facing the most brutal battle of my life. I was diagnosed with high-grade serous carcinoma on August 10, 2022. This type of cancer is scarce at my age. My whole life came to a halt. I am in the middle of nursing school and working on my bachelor's in nursing. Due to my medical diagnosis, I had to take a leave of absence from nursing school. I am also forced to stop working and rely on the little funding that disability will provide. I am a DACA recipient (DREAMER); therefore, I do not qualify for Medical or Covered CA. I am paying my premium medical insurance out of pocket.
I am a strong-spirited woman, and I plan to pursue my dream of becoming a registered nurse with a specialty in oncology when all this is done. My ability to have children has escaped me, so I will dedicate my life to the awareness and early diagnosis of ovarian cancer to the best of my ability. I know God is using my testimony to change the lives of my future oncology patients.
I will not give up! This cancer is just the beginning of my life. Come what may come, I will continue to fight for my little piece and space in this universe.
I am scheduled for my second surgery, where I will have an abdominal midline incision to remove all of my reproductive organs with a possibility of a colon resection if the tissue is deceased. This will take 3-4 weeks of recovery.
After my surgery, I will begin chemotherapy. I am scheduled to have six months of chemotherapy if all goes well.
I am calling on anyone and all to please help me through this process. My mother is taking time off work to take care of me, and as an immigrant woman, she cannot receive any financial assistance as a caregiver. I am humbled by the love I have received and I am forever grateful for my tribe that stands in support of my cancer journey. I am hopeful and faithfully waiting for this journey to end positively. The phrase, it takes a village resonates deeply! Thank you for taking the time to read and to donate.
My love, my gratitude is forever with you!<3
May the universe always be in your favor.
Here's to all the future nurses who are also facing a medical diagnosis in the middle of their career path to make a difference and save lives! You are not alone.
