Ronald & Miriam's 50th anniversary

Ronald and Miriam met at the corner of 115th street and Broadway in New York City at one of the gates to the Columbia campus. Miriam attended college at Barnard. Ronald was pursuing his Ph.D. and, when they first knew each other, she didn't think they would get along very well. Later, after he passed his qualifying exams, he returned to his usual self and she discovered how wrong she had been.
When Miriam asked Ronald if he would ever propose he responded, "Marry in haste, repent at leisure." She thought he meant he would repent if they got engaged--he meant that she would! It was just one example of how neither one ever felt like they quite deserved the other; neither of them could believe their good fortune. They were married on August 20, 1966 in Ohio (where Miriam's parents were living) among friends and family.
The intervening years brought many challenges and adventures: trips abroad, new degrees, new friends, new jobs, a new city, books and poems, tenure, parenthood, a succession of beloved dogs. But their love and support of one another never waivered or varied.

This summer, they are celebrating fifty wonderful (and unrepentant!) years together. Help us mark the occasion with them in whatever way you'd like.
Good wishes and congratulations can be sent in the mail to 559 Stratford Ave, St. Louis, MO 63130 and by email to munsonmir at yahoo.com or munson at umsl.edu
If you'd like to contribute to a larger gift, however, you can do it here! One of Ronald and Miriam's favorite places to visit is Florida, especially Destin. We went there on vacation as a family during several summers and some of their best memories are from those trips. We're here raising money to send them back again! Our initial goal will cover travel and accommodation for a week's vacation on the beach. Any additional money we raise will go towards sending them in style--maybe even first class! (The last time they got to enjoy that together it was was on a flight to Paris forty-odd years ago...and even that was purely accidental!)
We are so proud and happy to be here to celebrate and look to Miriam and Ronald in our own marriage. We'd love your help in letting them know how happy we are for them and how lucky we feel to have them in our lives.
Warmest wishes,
Rebecca (Munson--the daughter) and Claude (Willan--the son-in-law)
