MIREXIA Fundraiser - Help me put on my first play!

Donation protected
I'm incredibly excited to be making my writing/directing/producing debut this June at The Chain Theatre in New York City as part of Audacious Owl Production's Short Play Festival. But to do everything I hope to do, I need your help! Putting on a play is expensive, and anything you can contribute would be a MAJOR help!

Why should you donate?
Arts are important, and artists are important, and they deserve to be paid for what they do! Most of my asking amount covers the actor fees, which will help these guys afford their transport for shows/rehearsals, and compensate them for all the time and effort they put into bringing this piece to life. The rest will cover the cost of rehearsal space and props for the show - both crucial to seeing the production through to opening night!

Who are the artists?
I'm so happy you asked! I have assembled what I believe to be a brilliant cast, which includes:

  • Katherine Laheen (Shane) - a NYC based actor, originally from County Wicklow, Ireland. She will next be seen in the independent feature Mother of Future Self directed by Tori Lancaster and appeared in Maria Schrader’s She Said for Universal. Television credits include Apple’s WeCrashed opposite Anne Hathaway, HBO’s The Gilded Age, Peacock’s Girls5Eva and Hulu’s Ramy. She is a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, London.

  • Laurie Mahoney (Olive) - A native of New Jersey and an alumni of HB Studios and TVI, Laurie has had the pleasure of performing in several films, commercials and TV shows. Some notable works includes her national commercial for " Earth Breeze Laundry Sheets" and her regional commercials for " Weitz and Luxenberg" and "Waggle Pet Monitor". She can also be seen in the feature films Retrospect, The Forest Hills as well as the upcoming award winning film Tallywacker, which will be streaming this summer on all major platforms.

  • Brandon Bell (Bartender) - is making his New York stage debut in this production. He is currently training at the Atlantic Theater Conservatory. When not performing, Brandon enjoys exploring museums and going on walks. He would like to thank his friends and family for their endless support this semester, and gives a special shout-out to Janice Amaya.

And then there's me -

  • Erica Nicole Rothman (writer/director) - born in Philly, trained in London, and based in a different city every 3-or-so years. Acting credits onstage include work for Cortland Repertory Theatre (SALT Nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Play), Bucks County Playhouse, Theatre Horizon, Mazeppa Productions (BroadwayWorld Nomination for Best Leading Actress in a Musical), and CEJI Brussels. Film credits include My House, Guardians of Loch Ness, Ether's Paradise, Sh*thead, and The Rumperbutts. Erica's voice has been heard on the Amazon feature film Tuya Culpa, the Youtube Animation series Anything, on BBC Radio 3, and in the podcast Undertow: Blood Forest. Erica studied acting at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and dramaturgy at Birkbeck, University of London.

What is Mirexia about?
Mirexia is a deeply personal 10-minute play about connection, grief, and finding comfort in the most unexpected places.

One night, Olive, a High School English teacher who has just lost a student to suicide, and Shane, a young woman experiencing heartbreak, cross paths at their local bar. After striking up a conversation, the two share their frustrations, pain, and hope for how to move forward. Mirexia asks what we can do to affect change and determine our destinies in a world where so much feels out of our control.

Do I get anything if I donate?
Yes! See below:)

$1-$49 - my endless devotion and appreciation
$50-$149 - a copy of the script along with a personally-written letter detailing the inspiration behind the story, casting, and rehearsal process.
$150 or more - one complimentary ticket to one of the performances

Anything else you should know?
As I mentioned before - this will be my official writing/directing/producing debut, all things I've been interested in pursuing for years (flashback to my 2021-2022 degree in Dramaturgy). It will be a huge learning experience putting a piece on its feet all by myself and seeing my original words being performed for audiences for the first time. I can't say whether a full-length adaptation is in this play's future, or perhaps a film/short film adaptation, but everyone needs to start somewhere, and I'm so grateful and excited for this opportunity to start here, now!

All donations will go towards what I mentioned above - actor fees ($400), rehearsal spaces ($100-$150), and props/set pieces ($50-$100), and if I'm lucky enough to go over my goal or have funds leftover, that extra cash is going to go straight into the pockets of my brilliant actors. I'm so grateful to anything you can provide to help. Whether you can or can't, I hope you'll consider seeing the show!
