Miréa and Blaze take their school to Turkey!
Donation protected
Miréa, Blaze, and Bronwyn are going to Turkey!
The 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students from The Learning Center in Kona, Hawaii will travel together on a once-in-a-lifetime trip.
We will spend two weeks in May traveling throughout Turkey, exploring history, geography, and Biblical sites, and meeting wonderful Turkish people.
Bronwyn is both planning and helping to lead the trip for the whole school!
The 7th grade class will also be traveling to Jordan for 4 days (see the note from Miréa below).
A significant part of the cost has already been earned/raised and we are now fundraising for the rest! The kids are working hard on local group fundraisers—washing cars, selling crafts, and organizing events. We will update the GoFundMe page as funds come in.
A note from Miréa:
Turkey is a very special place for our family because my mom grew up there... and now our middle school in Kona, Hawaii is going on a trip to Turkey for two weeks! Some of the places we will be visiting are Istanbul, Izmir, Ephesus and Cappadocia.
Also, the seventh grade class (which means me, Miréa) will be going to Jordan for a few days—we are going there because that is where my school teacher used to teach seventh grade Iraqi refugees, who we are going to meet! We will also be going to the Dead Sea, Petra, and the Jordan River, which is the coolest thing to think about EVER. I am so excited about this and really hope that everything will work out.
Some of the fundraisers that we are working on here in Hawaii are: a kickball tournament, movie night, babysitting date night, fundraisers on the YWAM campus during corporate meetings (selling snacks, crafts, drinks, etc.), and selling drinks and snacks to tourists coming off of cruise ships, as well as car washing in the community. We’re doing everything we can!
A note from Blaze:
It would be very helpful if you donated to us because Turkey is a special place in our family and a lot of the places we are going to are in the Bible, which would be a very good experience for our class. One of the things I am working on here in Hawaii to raise money is collecting recycling because I can get 5 cents for every bottle or can. Thank you for helping us go to Turkey.
A note from Bronwyn:
I’m so honored and grateful to be taking my children and their classmates to my homeland!
The 6th-8th graders at the Learning Center have been studying Ancient Civilizations and the Eastern Hemisphere in their social studies curriculum, and we’ve planned a wonderful itinerary for them to experience as much of Turkey’s amazing history, natural beauty, and precious people as we can in two weeks.
I'm doing my very best to prepare a deeply meaningful, educationally-rich, and spiritually-significant trip for the children, as well as a number of parents who are coming as chaperones.
Thank you so much for considering giving towards this special experience! We are truly grateful.
