Mira's GRS Fund
Donation protected
Hi! I'm Mira. I'm a 23 year old musician and trans woman and I am currently pursuing GRS. This is an operation that will allow me to feel as true to myself in my body as medical science currently allows and take away a lot of anxiety over many things I wish to do in life. With the money I have managed to pull together in savings, I am £3750 short for the surgery itself (the quote I have is for €18,743). My current life situation and very low income means that continuing to save independently would take over a decade, which is a wait that I cannot see myself coping with, so I'm hoping to fundraise the remaining money I need. It is very possible this operation could be life-saving.
Once I reach the £3750 mark I will be able to get on the waiting list which according to my surgeon would mean a surgery date after about 9 months, so that is my primary goal. However, there are more costs than just the operation. I've already had to pay for referral and diagnosis letters, consultations, and travel for those consultations. I will need to pay for travel to and from the hospital, possibly with a stop along the way. After the operation I will need supplies for dilation (mostly medical lubricant and pain killers), and for the first few months when my mobility is very low I will need to rely on simpler meals and possibly deliveries which will cost much more than our usual shopping. Having extra money in case of emergencies will also be important for ensuring recovery is as unstressful as possible. To cover all of these costs I am asking for an additional £2000.
If at all possible, my intention is that any money I receive over the total of £5750 I will redistribute into mutual aid prioritising other trans people and especially trans BIPoC. I will do this after the surgery and things have settled and try to be transparent about how the donation money is being used.
