MiraProject- College Tuition

My name is Samira, and I am an aspiring investigative journalist. I am currently a senior in high school and I was accepted into my dream school Penn State. Everyone knows that college is expensive. Even I knew but the fact that I am so close yet so far from my dream due to funds is heartbreaking. I am going through some hefty obstacles in life such as grief and poverty and being black in America. All things, that have a story to be told. I believe college will launch me into the next phase. My voice will be heard from new heights. I've been told many times in my life that closed mouths don't get fed. This is something that I have internalized. Given my circumstances, it's my saving grace.

A lot of obstacles I have to face are out of my control. I have learned life does not always go to plan. Losing my mother to non-Hodgkins's lymphoma cancer and pulling the plug on my father due to no chance at quality of life were not supposed to be a part of high school. Throughout the whole college application process the lack of their presence was ever present. Me and my mom were supposed to bicker over my college essay. My dad was supposed to tear up over me growing up and give me sappy advice. We were supposed to sit at the table and open up that acceptance letter. The one thing that can still go to plan the way it was meant to, is attending Penn State.

All funding will go towards tuition.
