Miranda's Spinal Fusion Surgery
Donation protected

For more than half of her life, Miranda has been quietly and bravely living with Scoliosis. Unfortunately, there are few effective options for dealing with Scoliosis. Either you wait and see, or you undergo an invasive and life changing procedure known as Spinal Fusion. In the last few years, Miranda's condition has worsened to the point where she has constant pain, and simple maintenance is no longer an option.
It was not an easy decision for her to make, but on May 22nd, Miranda is going to undergo Spinal Fusion Surgery. While the procedure frightens most, Miranda is determined to get through this with her head held high, knowing that the potential benefits on her health and well-being far outweigh the risks.
Every year, roughly 20,000 spinal fusion surgeries are performed in the United States. The idea behind Spinal Fusion is just that: to fuse together parts of the spine in order to make it straighter. In many cases, a metal rod will also be inserted into a patient's back to help keep the spine from re-bending. Based on the curvature of Miranda's spine, she will likely have 2 rods inserted.
The cost of the surgery here in the US averages between $100,000 and $150,000. With her insurance, Miranda will likely get about 80% of the cost covered, still leaving her with a large bill that will likely take years to pay off.
We are looking to help Miranda cover as much of that cost as possible, as well as help her cover some of her living expenses while she recovers.
Recovery time varies by patient, but it could be up to 2 months before Miranda is able to return to work.
Miranda is one of the kindest and most generous people I know. She is constantly doing her best to help others. She volunteers her time to organizations like Special Olympics, St. Baldrick's, and Planned Parenthood. When she can't help in person, she gives money to help raise funds for helping children with autism, survivors of sexual abuse, and so many others. Let's do something to help her get through this time, and give to her the way that she is constantly giving to her community. Every penny that we raise will go toward Miranda and her recovery.
