Miranda’s New Wheelchair

My name is Melissa Many Fingers-Healy. I am a peer support worker for Bringing The Spirit  Home Detox Centre for the population here in Lethbridge, Alberta. In my job I work with the homeless population in the downtown core of Lethbridge. There are lots of people who I work with and see everyday. One specific person, who is also one of the most sweetest and kindness, is Miranda Spear Chief. Miranda is an elderly lady who has been homeless for around 5 years plus. She has the kindness heart and would take the coat off her back to give to another. She is also known downtown as “mom” to most of the younger homeless population. She has suffered so much in her past and is also a residential school survivor. If you were to meet her, she will capture your heart with her love and kindness. Recently, Miranda had told me of a tragic fall she had due to the horrible conditions of her current wheelchair. This fall caused her knee to slip sideways and be badly scraped and bruised. Her wheelchair is so badly damaged and worn out that this has resulted in her being injured more than a few times. As I examined her wheelchair I had no idea how she was still able to use it. The wheels are so filed down, and scraping the sides of her seat. I’m surprised the wheels have not yet fallen off. Her wheelchair is where she also sleeps and keeps her belongings. So, I’m here to start a go fund me for a new wheelchair and cushion for Miranda. I fear that Miranda will be injured once again if she does not have it replaced soon. She deserves a great sturdy wheelchair that will help her get from A to B. Please feel free to contact me for any further questions. Thank you everyone and together we can make this happen.
