I am a student interested in attending the Oxbridge Academic Spring Seminar in Oxford, England this spring break. This week-long, intellectually enriching experience will give me the chance to learn in a way I could never imagine, being taught by brilliant professors with students from all over the world. I believe that attending the seminar will give me a renewed outlook on what I'm passionate about. If I am fortunate enough to attend the seminar, I will be studying World Affairs/International Relations.
At the beginning of January, I applied for a scholarship, as I knew I wouldn't be able to attend otherwise. This scholarship was based on academic and personal achievement, personal essays, as well as recommendation letters from several teachers (to whom I am immensely grateful).
Knowing that up to 500 students apply and only about 40 get in, I was shocked with the letter I got in the mail just a few weeks after I sent away my application. With great excitement, last week I got the letter congratulating me on achieving a full scholarship, which includes "all tuition and instruction, accommodation, breakfast and dinner daily, transportation to and from the airport, all books and materials, guest presentations, workshops, field trips, and all cultural and social activities organized by the program, including sports, excursions, museum and gallery admissions, and theater tickets". While many amazing and essential components of the program are paid for, the scholarship doesn't include "airfare, lunch daily, or personal expenditures, such as snacks, laundry, souvenirs, and so on." The round trip from Austin to Oxford will cost approximately $1,200 to $1,300, not including other fees that come with traveling, which will add up to about $500.
As the seminar is fast approaching and I still haven't bought the tickets, I will need to fundraise as soon as possible. My goal is to raise $1800 by Monday, February 8th. With your help, this goal can be met. This donation would mean so much to me, as it would give me the opportunity to embark on a once-in-a-lifetime learning experience that I'll remember forever.
