A call for donations for a child in need.
On October 9, 2020, my family and I were in a devastating car accident in the Dominican Republic and my 11 year old daughter, Miranda, sustained blunt abdominal trauma and multiple life-threatening injuries. The seatbelt she was wearing caused internal damage to her organs and she required multiple blood transfusions, respiratory support from a mechanical ventilator, and underwent various emergency surgeries including nearly full resection of her intestines, removal of her spleen, leg fasciotomy, vascular repair of a dissection in the descending aorta and both iliac arteries, drainage of an abdominal abscess, and debridement of devitalized tissue in her lower limbs. Miranda miraculously survived after 2 months in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
On Nov 25 , Miranda was released from the hospital and is now home with VAC therapy to recover some of the tissue she has lost on both legs. However, her recovery and progress has been very slow, mostly due to the complications of accessing medical care during the pandemic in the Dominican Republic. Miranda has not been able to receive adequate medical or rehabilitative services and continues to suffer from failure to thrive, non-healing and infected leg wounds and has not regained mobility in her legs.
Our family is currently exploring options that could possibly allow Miranda to be transported from the Dominican Republic to the U.S. to a hospital in NY for further medical evaluation and treatment. We appreciate any assistance you can provide in our efforts to get the much needed medical care and air transport via ambulance plane for my daughter. Please circulate this message widely. Miranda is a very special little girl and I pray every day that my baby can return to her normal happy life and that this traumatic event will soon be behind us. Miranda necesita el aporte económico de $50, 000 dolares para su traslado y posterior recuperación en un hospital en NY.
