Miranda's Journey to Healing

Donation protected
Miranda was only 29 when she was diagnosed with brain cancer.  It was not recommended for her to have surgery.  Since she was young, her physicians opted to put her through the strongest radiation treatments possible.  She started chemotherapy prescriptions after her radiation was finished.  When she came back for her post-treatment check-ups, things were vastly improved.

She had some changes in her tumors a few years later and continued prescribed chemotherapy with additional medications. When she came for post-treatment exams, conditions were better, again.

Fast forward to the present, and the tumors are active and have grown.  Miranda and her dad, Ed, flew to MD Anderson in Houston, Texas where the specialists recommended surgery.  It’s scheduled for November 13, 2019 with radiation or chemotherapy later.  We're hoping and praying that this time she'll kick cancer to the curb for good.

Her pre-op, surgery, and hospital recovery will last between 7 to 9 days.   Two days before (for testing) and two days after (for added convalescence) her surgery and recovery, she'll be in a hotel near the hospital.  Also, she's looking at a month or more before she can return to work and has already used her paid days for doctor's appointments and testing.

We all know that insurance doesn't cover everything.  The airline tickets, hotels, meals, additional transportation, incidentals, and lost wages really add up.  She already made the trip for consultation and testing, will make the trip for the surgery, and will make at least two more trips after surgery for check-ups.  That’s four trips’ worth of expenses.

Thankfully, her dad will be with her during her stays for the duration of her journey.  He went with her on her recent MD Anderson consultations so he is familiar with the area and how things work there.  Plus, he has had cancer and is all too familiar with a lot of the treatment processes.

There have been so many times Miranda has felt overwhelmed by her brain cancer.  It takes a heavy toll on almost every function and aspect of her life.

Since she was a child, Miranda has always been very kind and giving. Even at an early age she participated with her grandma (breast cancer survivor,) mom (CIN III survivor,) and dad (lung, skin, and bone cancer survivor,) volunteering, donating, and raising awareness for many not-for-profit organizations in Southwestern Indiana.  Proudly, she has taught her own daughter, Jaycee, the tradition of giving back.  Her present job, and the last two, were in the cancer treatment industry.  She worked at Evansville Cancer Center, U.S. Oncology, and is presently at Vantage Oncology.  That gives her a lot of additional experience with everything cancer, but is truly a sad job for her to do.  Seeing the patients who lose their battles, while fighting a battle of her own, is almost too much to bear.  She has some great friends and co-workers there who help keep her spirits up.

She's in a very tight-knit four-generation group of strong women, each with only one child:  her grandma, her mother, Miranda, and her daughter. This makes her even dearer to us and we’re her biggest cheerleaders.  She also has a great husband and father that love her dearly and do everything they can to help out.

Won’t you please donate to help Miranda on her journey to healing?  Any amount is welcome.  Every surgery, every treatment, every treated case of cancer brings us one step closer to the cure of this dreaded disease.  Thank you!
