On April 28, 1995 an Angel was born. By age 5, Miranda Moo was diagnosed with a rare disease, Chiari 1 Malformation and soon after, she had her first decompression surgery. When she was 8 years old we were blessed to find Dr. David Frim at the University of Chicago, and he performed every brain surgery from this point, forward. As the years continued, so did the surgeries and multiple medical issues would ensue, including reconstructive bladder surgery, placement of a lumbar shunt and multiple decompressions. In September of 2010 Miranda was diagnosed with a Pituitary tumor, which shortly after, she had surgery to remove. Due to this surgery, Miranda was diagnosed with Diabetes Insipidus which caused havoc on the kidneys and the brain. While this was always a daily struggle, it was a very dangerous condition to endure while recovering after every single surgery sustained, for the rest of her life. Also, due to the DI a G-Tube was placed to feed Miranda .9% Sodium Chloride to help keep her sodium at a safe level. Thru the next few years Miranda would endure multiple staph infections, decompression surgeries, stent placement in the 4th ventricle and a forum magnum shunt in the head. 

From June to December 2014, Miranda's life, as we knew it - changed.
On June 16th 2014, Miranda WALKED into the hospital. During that time she endured multiple brain surgeries. She contracted a life threatening infection, Pseudomonas, in her blood stream and spinal fluid, that medical staff warned us, she may not pull out of. On August 12th, 2014 when diagnosed with the Pseudomonas, Emergency Surgery was performed by Dr Bakhtair Yamini and Dr Jonathan Hobbs, to remove the catheter tubing from the right atrium of the heart. On August 18th Dr. Frim removed the rest of the hardware from her head and placed an EVD. Once Miranda was awakened, we were devastated to find out that her spinal cord was affected and leaving her wheelchair bound. She had fought with her heart and soul, beating the Sepsis, and was discharged on December 15th 2014. 

From this point until present day, we knew we were on borrowed time. With still more surgeries and issues arising with her kidneys, liver, eyes, blood, bone marrow, and intestinal track. No matter how intense the pain was on a daily basis, Miranda always had a smile on her face and encouraging words for others. We knew our time was running out these past 6 months, as Miranda's pain grew stronger and she became weaker. Her stomach pain was so profound she couldn't eat and her headaches were so strong she couldn't sleep. She lost over 30lbs. All the while, making many many weekly Doctor visits with various Specialists, trying to figure out what was going on. 

On June 28th, we found out Miranda's Hemaglobin had dropped to 6.7, and she needed two units of blood that would be given on Sunday, June 30th. On Tuesday, July 2nd I want to Thank Dr Pekow, for performing an Endoscopy and having that off feeling that something wasn’t right and admitting us. Then on Wednesday, July 3rd, I also want to Thank Dr Siddoqui for performing another Endoscopy to explore Miranda's intestines for any further damage. On the night of July 3rd, Miranda started feeling more discomfort than ever, in her abdomen and complaining of a headache with pain level of 10. By 9:00a July 4th, Miranda's pain in her abdomen and head had increased so much that we did a CAT Scan of her stomach and head. Only to find out, there was a little swelling in the brain and a rupture in her intestines, which led to her becoming septic. By Thursday afternoon, Miranda's pain in her own words, was over a 15. She said she couldn't do this anymore, the pain was too much. No Mother or Father should have to see their child in that much pain! At 6:30p Miranda was in Emergency Surgery. Anesthesiologists informed us she was febrile, prior to starting surgery. Dr. Gundeti came in to perform his amazing portion of saving her stoma, so she could still cath thru her belly button. Once done,  Dr. Frim came in to remove the tubing that was in her abdomen, that was coming from her shunt, hoping the infection did not reach the brain. Dr. Eng performed miracles in the OR. He found the rupture in her intestines, it was a small contained area. He successfully reconstructed her small intestine to form a new tract for food to pass thru, with no pain. With addition to a G/J Tube being placed to help Moo stay nourished, while she was healing. With hopes of a complete recovery and Miranda to be able to eat real food again, pain free. During this 11 hour surgery, Dr. Siddoqui never left Miranda, until she knew she was out of surgery and she was doing ok. Shortly after surgery was over, Miranda's blood pressure plummeted twice. She had four pressers added on to attempt to get her stable enough to move from the OR to the ICU. From Friday to Sunday the swelling in Miranda's brain continued to get worse, leaving her unresponsive with a fever of 105.8 and comatose. On Monday, Dr. Goldenburg was called in to assist in Miranda's care due to her not waking up after removing all sedatives and pain meds. He immediately informed us he wasn't giving up on her yet. He started her on a medication to reduce swelling and after three doses of medicine, her CAT Scan showed the swelling had only become worse. He informed us that he suspected she was brain dead. On Wednesday, he concluded that his suspicions were correct. So after 45 surgeries her body was just too weak to continue on. 

And our  Warrior Angel was called Home.

The World lost the most Amazing, Strong, Funny, Witty, Beautiful Baby Girl at 5:00pm Wednesday July 10, 2019. We will cherish all the precious memories we have of her for the rest of our lives.

Such as Anything with a Cow or Butterfly on it, Walks with Her Dad around the block with Snookie, Miranda texting Ryan in the middle of the Night to bring her string cheese and he loved when she called him YaYa and she loved when he called her Rhonda,  Gram's Biscuits & Gravy and Steak & Lobster, Uncle Dennis's Awesome Oreo Shakes, Auntie Boolies Coloring Game that she and Moo did together, sleepovers with Alex, Family get togethers with Auntie Laura & Uncle Steve and Family, Nicole sharing her LuLaRoe wardrobe with her,  Auntie D teaching her how to swear, Moo's favorite restaurants were Taste Of Italy & Pepi's & Aurelio's & Olive Garden & Texas Roadhouse & Buffalo Wild Wings & Dairy Bar,  She loved her Fairy Garden, Moo's Favorite TV shows were Live PD & Chicago PD & New Amsterdam & Jersey Shore, Uncle Anthony's surprise trip to the Jersey Shore, Some of Miranda's Favorite Movies - Fast & Furious Series & Nicolas Sparks Movies & Elf & How The Grinch Stole Christmas & The Greatest Showman & Beauty And The Beast & Magic Mike, Our Family trip to the Exotic Feline Rescue Center, being a DJ for Mom when driving up to Chicago for Doctor visits, she Loved Mom's Stove Top stuffing - but not when Dad made it, She loved Uncle Dennis' and Alex's homemade bread, she loved to get her hair cut and highlighted by Auntie D, she Loved hearing her Brother's laughter while he would play X-Box with LJ, Planting Flowers with Mom and Gram, She loved Grams Shrimp & Broccoli Alfredo and Shrimp Dejong, She Loved when we had a litter of puppies, Family Reunions Up North, Christmas was her favorite Holiday because she was surrounded by Family, Watching Alex RACE, Her Color Street Mani & Pedi's, Fishing for Northern on the pontoon even in a wheelchair, Going to the Zoo, Moo LOVED her Squishy, Traveling the Country for Dog Shows, Auntie D's Bruschetta, making Christmas Cookies, Miranda loved watching the 4th of July Fireworks, Miranda LOVED her Thunderbuddies when the storms would come thru and most of ALL she loved laying in bed with her Mom, cuddling watching Hallmark Christmas movies


 We  WANT TO THANK EVERY DOCTOR & NURSE WHO EVER HELPED MIRANDA especially my COMER FAMILY! You all are amazing nurses and doctors!And all of you have become our second family.  I want to thank all the incredible doctors on the adult side who took special care of Miranda this last time. From Dr Pekow for admitting her and feeling as though something was off. For Dr Siddoqui for staying with us for the 11 hours Miranda was in surgery till 5:30 am. For Dr Gundeti and his amazing work. Dr Frim for his countless miracles he preformed on Miranda. For Dr Goldenburg for giving Miranda a fighting chance and for never giving up on my baby girl.
Thank you to all the Doctors and Nurses for going ABOVE AND BEYOND with multiple DAILY visits to check on Moo and Support Us, during the absolute most difficult time of our lives.
