Trinity was gravely injured at her friend's Sweet 16 Birthday Party in Dadeville, Alabama on April 15th. She was shot in the head, foot and flank (near her waist). A fourth bullet grazed her leg. A medic on the scene contacted us through friends on social media to tell us that when he encountered Trinity he observed her agonal breathing, gasping for air every 15 seconds or so. When this occurs they expect a dying brain, heart attack or stroke. He said when triaged they had coded her as being beyond help but he saw something special in her as she lay there dying. He decided to provide her with an airway to save her life. We are grateful to him for that and praise God for guiding him.
Trinity's prognosis was poor and we knew immediately that we needed a miracle. Over the next few days she experienced complications associated with her injuries and we prayed constantly. I thanked God for his Grace realizing that He had been so good to us. Despite the circumstances, I am thankful and must praise God knowing only He can restore Trinity's mental and physical health.
On day 7 we received a report following a CT Scan that was devastating. We prayed as a family and her Dad and I agreed not to reveal the information to anyone. A few minutes later I spoke to him and reminded him that we came in knowing we needed a miracle and nothing had changed. We agreed that we were prepared to do whatever it took to take care of Trinity no matter her condition.
I started providing daily updates to everyone who reached out to thank them and encourage continued prayers. This was therapeutic for me. While alone with my thoughts one night I watched my baby as she lay in the Neurological Intensive Care Unit at UAB hospital requiring countless drugs and devices to sustain her life while battling fever, possible infections, with little use of her right side, part of her skull removed, brain swollen and head misshapen...Our plans and dreams like vapor disappearing.... The once fiercely independent, incredibly physically strong, enthusiastic cheerleader with jumps that make crowds gasp, who worked out daily with dreams of attending college in Atlanta, with a beautiful smile and a beautiful soul now lay under a barrage of machinery not even knowing what happened to her barely able to blink on command.
I had an epiphany. I shared in my daily update that I remembered that after learning I was pregnant the Doctor told me test results indicated I would miscarry. Trinity came in the world happy and healthy but unable to crawl, walk, talk, feed herself, jump, run, flip, write, laugh...We were so happy and we celebrated every milestone. We carried her, changed her, fed her, strolled her, taught her to read, write, walk, talk, jump, run... We celebrated every milestone for 16 magical years. We are prepared to do it again but this time it will take extensive rehabilitation therapy.
We have received a miracle every day. I pray that Trinity's story will inspire you and help you to see the miracles in your life no matter how small. Trinity is talking, laughing, smiling...We are working toward sitting up without support, strengthening her right side and eating. We have come a mighty long way and we have a long way to go.
Funds received will help cover medical costs, lodging and travel during her rehabilitation (approximately 6 months to a year) following an anticipated three-week stay in the Trauma Unit.
Thank you for your prayers and support for Trinity's miraculous recovery.
